Sounds like the battery cables are loose at the battery.

The main fuses should be in a narrow box by the battery. The main fuse is the 100A one in the middle. it's bolted in so make sure you unbolt it before you take it out. was it cranking when the noise happened or did it pop right when you hooked them together

it sounds like you have a bad short to ground. thats probably what the sparks were that you saw. that would also explain you blowing a fuse in the other vehicle. check your fuses to see if you blew anything also. if it is a short to do with the starter i dont think there is a fuse for that. so you can check all the connections for signs of electrical arcing or you can use an ohm metter to check for continuity.

well if you see sparks at the battery terminal then it is loose. Clean the connection and tighten them down. You should not be able to wiggle the battery terminal connections when they are properly tightend. now see if it will crank. if it doesnt then check under the car for sparks when you crank it. if you see sparks then you have a short circuit or a loose connection there also.
