Wink Does coolant leak affect preformance?

Hey guys,
This may be a very stupid question but here it goes. I have a minor coolant seal leak. I'm saying this beacause I have a little white smoke when i start up and my coolant reservior is dwindling without any fluids on the floor. I have never overheated or anything..I think it is pretty minor. My question is= does this effect my preformance in any way. If I get a water temp gauge and constantly add coolant can I live with this? This doesn't affect compression in any way does it? thanks for your replys in advance.....Micah

First off you would want to fix your signature as it is too big. The maximum signature size allowed is 6 lines of text, your's is currently almost 3 times that.

2nd yes performance will be down from lowered compression because of the leak and combustion temps reduced

If it were me, I'd be hesitant to rely on a leaking water seal for too long. Start saving your pennies for a rebuild. It's like a head gasket, once it starts to go, you don't really know how long it will hold out.

I just got a rebulid under 20,000 miles ago though. It doesn't make sense. I've taken great care of her and everything. Never really abused her. IDK

No, Icemark is a mod. Secondly, yes, think about it, higher temps=better combustion, better combustion=faster car. Also, if coolant can leak in, your combustion mixture, or exhaust can leak out.

Well, reguardless of when you got the engine rebuilt something is wrong. If you didn't want the answer to your question, why did you ask? I suspect you already knew the answer long before you posted....

Staing that i got my engine rebuilt 20,000 miles ago doesn't mean that already knew the answer to my question. What kind of logic is that?

it was more about the attack on Icemarks' info, and the way you presented your information. It appeared that you were offering the rebuild time as more of an excuse why it wouldn't hurt anything... Just the vibe of it really.

Either way, yes, it will hurt something eventually, and yes you are suffereing from lower compression, and poorer burn rates right now, both of which equal less power.

How about the rebuild was done poorly?

Oh BTW, you need over 16,900+ more posts to go...

to check for a coolant leak internally just pop off the rad cap and have someone start the car for you. If you see bubbles you have a small leak. This can be temp fixed by the directions of Kevin Landers wedsite. www.rotaryresurrection.com

Also if you start the car and your coolant comes out like a water fountain like my last coolant seal pop did their is no saving it.

The rebuild cost 2300 (with streetporting) by J&R Rotarys in New Jersey ( I think it's J&R). And I've heard mothing but good things about them. Thanks for the advice BUKWILD I'll try that out. Thanks alot, Micah
