Cool does anyone else's car hate the cold?

well its that time of the year when it gets cold as s*** and me and my car both hate it! i was just wondering if anyone else's car gets pissed off this time of the year? personally my car hates it! the dash lights don't work until the car gets warmed up, the door takes a few times to shut, 2nd gear does not like to be shifted into at first, and it does not like to go anywhere in the snow regardless if i spent $200 on rough treads! just wondering if anyone else has fun little problems that arise only during the winter?

To be honest, any car in a state of disrepair is going to act disgruntled when it gets cold. It goes with out saying that the colder it gets the more severe the symptoms. But traction issues aside a properly maintained vehicle doesn't care if its 20* or 80*.

Well, so far Lucy has handled operating in November/December cold with aplomb. Fascinatingly, she operates a bit better in the cold. Most mornings I fire her up and the AWS doesn't kick-in!

my Janette has been good too me in cold weather, the only problem or thing that bothers me is my engine warms up before my exhaust does so for the first couple blocks the exhaust sounds weak but after that it purrs so nice. but to be honest usually Colorado is freezing by now but in Denver we have yet to even see snow that sticks to the ground. oh well for DD my fc =) i was driving with my windows down and roof open today

yeah you are correct it has its little problems here and there but i bought the car when i was 16 and naive not knowing it had a salvage title, but i had to have a 7 and so i bought the first over priced one i found. i'm going to do a overhaul on it and fix everything wrong with it and much more after i get into the army and get some steady cash though.

Most of the "my car hates the cold" type problems are emissions related as Lonewolfrx pointed out. The thermowax/ accelerated warmup are commonly butchered for the sake of "performance" along with the BAC.

If your BAC is not functioning it should probably be the first thing you fix, manual idle FTL.

The lights not working (idiot lights) are the result of either the unit itself, or the CPU needing to be resoldered. As a matter of fact, just about everything electronic in the FC needs to be resoldered.

Have you changed/checked your trans fluid? Not sure how long you've had the car be the PO might have used some 85-140 oil in there...just sayin, stranger things have happened.

RWD sports cars don't like snow.

yeah.. well i had a bridgeport na before and when it went i swapped in an s5 motor. i had no emissions rack or bac to use when i got it. so i just put in the motor with out em. Sucks starting up in the morning but its my daily. About 6-7 yrs of daily driving through heat, rain and snow. I only drive rwd cars cause i got so used to driving them.

Mine runs great in 0 degree weather... Starts right up every time, just takes a few minutes to warm up then it drives perfect.

Gets around fine in the snow with all season tires, just got to know how to drive it

My car loves the cold, or maybe I love my car more in the cold. I have crept up a bit on a 4th gear pull in ~35 though, I don't want to kill my turbo.

Just yesterday it was 18 deg. out, my car started up perfect, the only problem is the trans fluid is kinda weak (previous owner) so it take's a second for it to not wanna make weird sounds going in to second gear. I'm betting if you change your trans fluid to a decent quality it will act a little better when shifting when cold. I'm 99% sure that's what my problem is. best of luck!

Thats where I am. Left the BACV though, no good reason to get rid of that. I didn't have my 7 up in PA so I cant comment about that, but it doesn't like starting or idling when it gets below 40* here. I only took the emissions **** off because all the vac lines and t's were old and breaking and didnt feel like replacing it all. The AWS would stick and either not work causing hard starts at freezing or stick at around 1500 so I ditched it. The aux port sleeves were removed which I am sure doesn't help my cause, but she doesn't buck or fight even in 2nd gear at 1000rpms going up hill(tried). The idle vac went from 20in to 18.5in on the plx which inst to bad, the engine is in decent shape and the last compression test at mazda happened 15,000mi ago was 111-118psi on a engine that wasn't run in over a hour.

Once she starts up and it may not be as easy but she always does(even as it has gotten to 19* here in NC) she will hold a idle once the engine temp hits 104*, which usually means pedaling it around 1000 for 2-3 minutes. I have a speed3 for a DD so this car hasn't served that function in years.

My 7 prefers the cooler temps. Lower AIT's.
