Dipstick length?

Hey,

My dipstick reads full every time I check the oil level, even when the car's low oil light is screaming at me. This leads me to believe that I may have the wrong dipstick for my engine. I did some searching and in another thread, they said that na and t2 rx-7's have different length dipsticks, is this true?

Could someone who has a t2, measure the lengths on your dipstick from where the rubber stopper meets the engine to the full mark and from the full mark to the low mark, and post it here? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

While your waiting, you might look and see if the dipstick enters a tube that is pressed fitted into the *block*. IF the TUBE is not there, then your dipstick is pressing against the *block* when fully down and not pressing against the top end of the tube that should be press fitted into the *block*. Just a thought.

Yes the dipsticks are a different length. This is because the length of the metal holder tube is different. If this were missing your dipstick would bottom out in the pan long before it was able to seat on the block.
Does your low oil buzzer ever stop? If not this could be the sensor.
When you change your oil, does it read 2 qts high on the stick?

Okay. It turns out I have the correct dipstick, and my block has the press fitted tube; it looks just like the t2 pic posted. I'm not sure what the problem could be, but any ideas why my dipstick always reads full when I check oil? Last time I changed oil, less than 2 quarts came out of the pan, but my dipstick read full before I drained it.

what did the oil look like? Too much sludge on the bottom? empty your oil pan again and put 4.5 quarts, then read the dipstick and see exactly were it is.

well i changed my oil today and it was over F at 4 qts. so i compared my dipstick to one out of a known to be N/a dipstick..
They WERE the SAME!

So the measurements i gave you were for an N/a stick also. now i'm on the hunt to find out how mine got swapped.. as the engine was rebuilt 1k miles ago.
