the difference in s4 and s5 backplates.

I learned the difference between the two today the hard way.

I bought an s5 Turbo off a forum member and later find out its missing the backplate. (I'm new to turbos so I didn't realize until I saw one with it).

So I talk to the seller and ask him to look for it and he supposedly couldnt find the back plate and tells me it doesn't matter because I can use my s4 back plate because they're the same.

So I take the back plate off the s4 Turbo, end up snapping one of the bolts/studs that hold it on.

I then go to put it on the s5 Turbo and low and behold, they're completely different.

Guess I should've realized that just by looking at the two, but I took his word for it. Goes to show not everyone on here is honest and/or knows what they're talking about.

True as that may be, you're the one who had both parts in hand and didn't notice the difference.

I honestly thought they were different and was hoping they weren't because its going to be hard to get a back plate for an s5 Turbo.

Most people would rather sell a whole Turbo than seperate pieces.

and which car are you fitting it to??
if you have s4 manifold.. then make the s5 turbo a s4 unit by swapping the entire exhaust housings ? is this not the intention?

I'm using the s5 Turbo.

The s5 has more efficient wastegate design and my s4 needs a rebuild, thats why I got the s5 in the first place.

I have the manifold and heatshields for it. The only thing I really need is that back plate.

I'll be putting a wtb in the classifieds.

Well if you want 2 be technical a TURBO BACKPLATE is the plate that bolts 2 the chra on the front or cold side and houses the front trust bearing............if that is the cause the seller was and is correct S5 and S4 are the same.Exhaust back plate are different cause of the wastegates differences.

I meant the plate on the back of the exhaust housing.

Hopefully I can find one. Need one of the bolts/studs too since I broke one of mine.

Wish me luck
