I get 14.5 volts at idle, no loads. At idle with E-fans, A/C, rear defroster, headlights, I get about 12.9 Volts. The thing puts out some juice....

Its a Pro Amp alternator, it was a little spendy, about $160.00. It was a toss up between the $199.00 135 amp that Alterstart makes, or the FD alternator. The FD was less expensive, so I went that route. I wish I could have gotten one used, but they arent easy to find here....

Hey, J-Rat... how'd you do the pulley for that thing? I've been looking for a V pulley for this thing for a while.

I got the pulley off of an old '67ish GM alternator. For some reason, it fit right on. Its the one peice style. My guess is, I got lucky. The only thing I had to machine was the spacer. From my experiment, I gathered that all GM pulleys will fit. You just gotta get one that wont grind the case. Plus I tried to custom grind a spacer, that was harder then I thought, so I just widened the orignal FC spacer with a Dremel. It fit like a champ..

A dremel... I tried drilling out the FC pulley and I couldn't get an even circle. Trying to get a spacer that doesn't grind the case is hard. I really don't know how the FD serpentine pulley did it, but it did. How do you tell?

You may want to swap out your old wires with new and bigger ones to maximize your Charging System now:
