Question Cutting out while driving......

My car is cutting out while cruising down the road. Does this when ever it wants, there does not seem to be a pattern to it. I changed the plugs and wires yesterday. I am thinking maybe its the AFM, Fuel Filter, or Injectors. is there anything else that might cause this to happen. This is a 87 NA. The only thing major I have done is changed the Clutch/PP/TB/PB. I checked all the plugs on the tranny to make sure they were plugged in, not sure if this would cause an issue or not. Any Ideas?......kinda running into a wall here..

2 things have caused this on my car over the years:

1) vac leak caused by a heat-warped EGR block-off plate (seemed to happen mostly just after a bump in the road)

2) intermittent electrical connection at the water thermo sensor (connector cracked)

Do you mean totally dieing? This is a longshot, but one of my 7's had a corroded battery cable which would cut off the power to the car, and it would totally die leaving me stranded at the side of the road. It was a tough one to figure out considering the cable looked fine on the outside.

I had mine cut out on the highway this last weekend, I had it checked out and it was a battery cable. I would check that first thing cuz its the easiest and cheapier.

I used to have a similar problem.....car would start to sputter whlie driving.....no acceleration......then stall out.

Turned out my TPS was faulty, but it wasn't bad enough to give off an engine code. Happened to my old S5 N/A.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the input....its the weirdest thing......its like the car just dies but because your in gear and moving it starts again. I have checked the Battery cables...Infact they are both new on the ps and neg. Water thermo sensor would cause this.....hmmmmm. One other thing and I dont think it would cause it is I noticed my O@ sensor plug isnt plugged in well, I can see the spade. This would make me run very rich I think if its not plugged in....I dont know. I will get to it this weekend. Vac lines will all be replaced as soon as I think I can do the job between a fri night and a sunday night. Its my daily driver and my only means right now.

Update.....

Got in the car a few minutes ago......cranked right up. As I was pulling out of the parking lot the engine started to choke. or at least that is what it sounded like. I had to punch the gas to get it to quit, but was still acting up. Would the Coils cause this as well.

Todays issue could well be due to the Monsoon rains we are getting here in the Jxn MS. area. Tornados/Hail/THunderstorms/ Damn Mississippi weather.
