cutting in and out

at intermittent times, my 86 just loses (fire) for a second or two and then regains it. it doesn't miss when quitting or refiring,, it does it at all rpms,,
any thoughts ? also,, where is the fuel pump on a 86 injected rx-7 ?

I'd be looking at the basics, like bad sparkplugs or spark plug wires first. When was the last time they were replaced? If you don't know on either, you should replace them anyway.

the fuel pump is located in the gas tank as most Fuel injected cars built in the last 15 years.

it's could be the injection maybe sucking up air or the injectors aren't working for a bit

that's what he said bro.. at any rpm so i'm gessing while his car is running.. if his ignition is workin then it could only mean he's not getting fuel (right??)

No he didn't say... he only said while the car is running.

Its very common to have the pick up filter in the fuel tank get clogged and have the engine cut out, but only while turning. That is why I was asking.

it happens at all rpm's,, under acceleration or just cruising down the road,,, doesn't seem to be related to turning,,, and i can also say that none of the gauges react in anyway,, the engine just loses fire for a few seconds then runs strong again.

sounds like it could be a bad ground if it's that intermittent. I'd do a search and find the posts on how to ground and what to ground.

Yeah, I'd be replacing/upgrading all the engine grounds next.

ok,,, sounds good,,, plugs and wires didn't help,, so engine ground wires,,, i stil wonder about the fuel pump or injection,,
if a coil was bad wouldn't the tach fall during the seconds it cuts out ?

There are three coils, the leading and two trailing coils.

The tach signal is summed off the firing of the two trailing coils.

If the trailing coils go out, or were not firing then you wouldn't have a tach signal for the gauges, power steering, cruise, etc. The engine would still run, just slighty rougher (some people wouldn't even notice).

so,, it could be the leadig coil,, but this is complete cut-out,, i mean it shuts off for a second or two and then regains fire.
so,,, a bad ground sounds more likely,, u don't think a fuel pump would cause this ?
