Custom supercharger setup

Hey guys, I new here so take it easy. I have a 86 N/A that I am currently working on. In the works right now is a custom header(dual exhaust) all the way back, with H pipe. I dont know if I should use cats or not? Then do I need my air pump? The big one is the full out custom supercharger. It is going to be like a paxten supercharger. Im using the compressor half of a turbo off a 300zx, it will be belt driven 10-1. I have a very large intercooler off a Porsche 944 Turbo. It should be very cool when done(hopefuly fast too) It all should be done by April. Pictures comeing soon. Let me know what you think.

Mm... you can't exactly just take the compressor off a turbo, and belt drive it. Turbo compressors spin at ~100,000 rpm. While I'm sure your 10:1 is a reduction, i'll just play along with it as a multiplication... so...your car is mobbing along at 3000rpm... x 10 for the pulley..that gives 30,000 rpm.. FAR short of anything to give any good boost.

It would probably be a lot easier to go to a junkyard and find some car with a REAL supercharger on it (GTP, mr2 super, etc..), and somehow fab that on.

If you have 3-phase cats, you need to supply air to them... IE, an air pump.

Do your research. I have seen descriptions of red hot turbos and downpipes. Driving a belt off such a thing would be an engineering marvel..

depends on the charger. Normally they don't produce as moch boost as a turbo.

My dream is a belt driven blower (for daily sporting around) and a 100 shot nitrous for the occasional show-off.

I was looking at using a larger turbo compressor off a disel. But I was tlod that they use a low speed bearing, and that on my set-up I would burn them up. But, it wouldnt be turning all that fast. What is the speed a gas turbo spin at, and what do disel spin at? I found one that is large and work well I think. If I have two high flow cats. Do I still need the air pump?

im too damn poor for a super, but if you can build one like that, i might follow suits. i was just going to sell my peice and get a TurboII, but, that sounds like a plan. I have heard of people taking turbos and making them supers but i dont know the specifics of it, if i find anything ill post it, Later

Gas turbos spin at around 100,000 to 120,000 rpms.. pretty fast..

Diesel..hm... not sure.. I'd imagine about the same... even if it is lower, i really can't imagine it being low enough to belt-drive it..

Also, the SC's run off of a belt which is powered by the motor, thus you are robbing some power to get more.

It's totally feasible.
You need the same fuel system upgrades as a TII- (injectors, fuel pump, maybe an FMU, and an S-AFC)
and you seed to fabricate all the mounting hardware, brackets, etc, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.... just do your research on volume and flow to get one that closely matches the RX-7, engine.
Making all the brackets, if you have the facilities, really isn't hard, same with the intake piping.
Just takes some work and some knowhow.

What kinda paxton were you thinking? NOVI 2000 would be my guess. If it were me, I would go with an ATI Procharger. All of their super chargers can be pullied up to 24 psi (the bigger ones to 36 psi) and most of them do not requires an oil feed line like a turbo would. They run their own case of synthetic. As well, ATI mounts easily on the drivers side (need to remove ps and a/c), and they have tons of options available for after coolers (intercoolers). Do not go cog if you wanna street drive it.
If you are interested, I gots tons of info on supercharging, just ask me.
Sean Cathcart.
