Cruise Control Computer
Cruise Control Computer
Is there a difference between the cruise control computer in a turbo and an N/A? If not, the only difference between the two systems is the actuator and the cable? Thanks for any help
Big difference:
The NA is vacuum operated.
The turbo is electric servo operated. (no vac under boost)
<edit> Are you asking if the computer is different? - Probably - Not sure..

Um... so is it possible to use a turbo cruise control in a NA? Is the wiring the same? I have a Turbo II cruise control module & such sitting in my car awaiting a mounting bracket. Do they mount the same way?

I know the servo is different, i'm asking if the actual Cruise Control Computer is different. I did a turbo swap and i havent gotten around to putting the cruise control back in. I tried to use the n/a servo with the turbo cable like i've read about somebody else doing, but the cable way was too long and was not happening. Thanks.
I have a turbo in a na car with a na cruise control. It has NEVER given me ANY PROBLEMS. And I drive many miles b/t Ft Worth and Corpus Christi TX, many times and NEVER EVER had ONE SINGLE problem. GET OVER IT , dear folk who think it is a problem.

I know the n/a servo will work on the turbo motor but if i remember correctly the cable doesn't match up or something to that effect. Is there a different cable on the s4 as opposed to the s5? I would really just prefer to use the turbo servo is possible b/c i know the cable length matches as does the connection to the throttle linkage. How is that turbo working out for you? You don't have any issues with the cruise kicking off b/c all you have is "mini-hills" in between corpus and Dallas. Actually I'm kidding about the hills, i used to live just north of Houston and i spent lots of time out towards San Antonio and Austin so i know there is some big hills. In all seriousness, does cruise continue to work when the manifold sees positive pressure? Thanks.

The computer is exactly the same.
Oddly, I used the vacuum operated servo in under boost for a while. I figured it would freak while climbing a hill or accellerating, but it still worked fine. I believe that it may have a small internal vacuum resevoir. But I would still recommend getting the proper electrical servo.

Awesome. Thanks for answering my question. I have both the na and the turbo servo's but when i tried to put on the n/a one with the turbo cable it was way to long. When i had the last motor in my car i had put in the turbo servo and it didn't work but I had some other issues at that time so i wasnt sure exactly why the cruise didn't work. I'm a cruise control-aholic and not having it the last month has been killing me. Can't wait to get home and put the turbo one back in. Hope the cruise servo isn't bad.
Hm. I suppose the turbo electrical servo I have sitting in the back of my NA won't work then.
Anyone want to trade a NA cruise control device for a turbo one? Email me. I'd also be interested in a NA mounting bracket, if possible.

Just be prepared for it to cut out when you try to climb a real hill.

I amazed that they are interchangeable.
It makes sense with the brake assist since you’re not boosting and braking at the same time.
I guess no one boosts on cruise.

I have the electric on my other car, a turboii, and I think it is smoother than the vac operated one.
When my car goes up one of those real high hills in the hill country in Tx, I see the boost gauge get to the zero for a moment, but that's all. Oh......these hills are REAL, REAL high. Maybe three hundred feet high. Big *** hills. I always carry a oxygen mask with me when traveling thru that part of Tx. humor, please. Oh, I just thought. There is a thing called RANGER HILL, just outside Ranger Tx. That would be good place for me to drive and see if the cruise kicks out. I'd bet money it probably would if I was in fifth gear. But on normal driving conditions on the Interstate...it ain't a gonna happen.

The only "hills" I have around here are the bridges.
They have to be tall enough so the big gray floaty things the Navy has will go under them.
