Could It Be A Short?!

ok, i finally got my car up and running today, and the reason it broke before was because the 30A fuse in the first slot which would be the EGI fuse, was blown. so anyways, my friend saw that was the problem, and we replaced it. however, on my way out, i was driving normally, and then just floored the gas, and sputter sputter rev goes down, fuse blown once again. could it be a short? if so, how can this be fixed? i bought one earlier today and then after driving it for awhile, one blows, then i replace it..and 2 seconds later, blows again. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks...arjay

could it be something fuel related as well?

Well, you have a short. To locate it, you will need to ohm out the wiring harness. Also, check the ECU. There's nothing really more to say...the rest is labour...

The quick - but sometimes expensive SMOKE test.
Put in a bigger fuse - and whatever smokes - that's the short.

The above was originally a joke, but I have gotten so frustrated with an intermittant short that I ran with a jumpered fuse once to find it..

There's no clue what car you have. Hard to help in that case. Attached is a jpg of a n/a, 87. The thirty amp fuse feeds the main relay(see diagram), then branches off to 1. The green check connector.
2. The airbypass relay
3. To feed all the solenoids, relief, switching, ppcv, split air, bllost sensor etc, etc etc.

Download the 86/88 manual schematics at http://www.iluvmyrx7.com for sections on the EGI AND EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM and follow the trail.

You might pull all the easy to get at solenoids plugs off and try again. Buy some dozen fuses first.

I'll try to attach a jpg, site willing. Site not willing....no jpg.

EDIT: THE NEXT JPG IS WHERE THE THIRTY AMP FUSE AND MAIN RELAY ARE. IF THE SITE WILLSUPPORT THE JPG

EDIT: Just follow that black/white (BW) wire at the bottom of the page. See how it goes to all those solenoids??????? Remove half the solenoid plugs at a time. If it blows, its PROBABLY not the ones you removed. So now remove the next batch of solenoid plugs. You can figure it from there. Not a lot to it , really.

I took a look at this car.. The harness is really melted..

I checked the wires from the ECU, but they were perfect.

I also think it was ground related, being the car has corrosion all over the engine, like the ground went bad.

Maybe the increased load froma bad ground, caused the fuse to blow, and then the larger fuse allowed for the wire to melt..

He has another car in his garage, he could always swap it out the harness, but why did it **** out in the first place..

I need some harness experts... Does the harness disconnect before the ECU?

What about fuel pump relay, if this went bad and allowed for more voltage to pass through, it would burn out fuses?

Dadgumit. Whats the problem???? The attached jpgs show the path from the fuse. Just check each individual item to see which is shorting out the fuse. Its a case of just following the wire from the thirty amp fuse. Kids play.
