2nd Gen Speaker Box Question What is best or loudest?
ok I have a question about speaker boxes. Right now i am running a single 8" sub in a tube with a 300 watt amp running 200 watts RMS. I have it faceing the spare tire well. It sounds pretty good. But i want more. Been thinking a loaded box with 2 12" subs what kind of box would be best. Bandpass? Ported? Sealed? Just wanted to know. And what is the differance in these boxes Thanks.
Depends...
Depends on what kind of music you listen to and what kind of sub you buy. Some subs are made for small sealed enclosures and they'll produce tight bass (good for rock). Bandpass IMO sucks. If you have enough power to good subs, you don't need a Bandpass. A big ported box will be louder than the sealed but won't be as accurate, but that's not as important if you listen to alot of rap. For a sub recommendation, check out Image Dynamics at Sounddomain.com. I'm buying some really soon. Alot of JL guys get IDs and like IDs better.

I aways like the muffled sound of a band pass, and in my experience I have heard a JL w4 in a ported box, sealed and band pass, the later of which hit the hardest, has the massage seat effect......

Well instead of going with bandpass or 12's and all that other stuff try considering going for a pair of 15's. Eclipse makes small enclousure subwoofers that put out ten times the sound of any 10 or 12 inch sub in a ported or bandpass box i installed two 87151.8 eclipse 15's in a small wedge box which fits perfectly in the hatchback and allows plenty of space to still see out the rear window they're powered by a 50 watt per channel pioneer premeir amplifier and theyll get so loud that it makes breathing difficult inside the car and you could pick them up for almost the same price as a set of 12's in a bandpass box just a suggestion

i have a 10" infinity kappa sub and a 1ft sealed box and it slams. sealed boxes are totally the way to go. they make for tight bass, not sloppy like what comes out of a bandpass.

I have one 12" in a bandpass box... I built it myself, and it takes up the hatchspace behind the two shock towers... It has 3 ports, all firing towards the seats... two ports in front of the speaker, one behind it. It sounds awesome, and is not "sloppy" at all. Two 12's would be an awful lot to put in that little hatch.

Nope, not true. You have to remember, there are 3rd order, 5th order, 7th order bandpass boxes. I built my bandpass to the specifications provided by the manufacturer, which said to put one 7" long 3"diameter port behind the speaker, and two 3" long 3" diameter ports in front of it.

I found places online that sold eclipse subs but they want like $400 per 15" sub. So with a box and everything its like a grand. No way I would pay that much personally.

I've had setups in my FB...I don't one in my TII...it's a damned distraction and a reason for thieves to break into my car...
I had 1 12" in a sealed box that matched up with the volume req. for the speaker. It sounded cleaner, better, and louder than two 10's in a bandpass box.
