Coolant Sensor Question...???

I have a TurboII waterpump on my 1st gen, and there are two sensors on it.

A green one on the back of the pump right under the big bolt that allows the alternator to pivot...

And another on the neck right before the coolant cap with what looks like a male spade / connector sticking out from it...

Does anyone know what these are for...??? THANKS...

Sensor with the green plug is the temp sensor for the ECU.

The one attached to the thermostat housing with the spade is the thermal switch for the electric fan.

Top one (nearest t-stat) is usually temp probe, bottom one closer to impeller) is usually thermo switch for stock e-fan.

Yes... an auxilary electric fan. Auxilary meaning supplemental in this case. A back-up or fail safe device to keep our precious motors from overheating. C'mon man.

The auxiliary fan was a booster meant to supplement cooling when the AC was on.
It fit in front of the AC condensor -below the coolant recovery tank- and was about 10" diameter.

My '91NA had the wiring for the thermoswitch (still tied off to the harness, unused) and the fan's relay was installed, but no fan.

Odd.

You could use that thermoswitch to trigger an radiator efan if you decide to convert to one.

So I went out and looked at my 91NA auto.... same thing! all of the wiring is there, thermoswitch, waterpump housing, relay, etc... but no fan! wtf.... I feel cheated. Good thing its just my parts car... but I was hoping to use that aux fan.
