can anyone hlep???? automatic transmission problems

For almost 4 years I have been troubleshooting a problem with my 91 RX-7 with an automatic transmission. The problem is when I accelerate, in order to let the transmission shift to the next gear I have to lift my foot off the accelerator. Then it will shift. I have to do this through all four gears. This problem has not changed in two years (no better no worse). The Mazda dealer here in Madison Wisconsin could not fix the issue. They replaced two sensors which didn’t change anything. A local reputable mechanic I took it to said it was a vacuum problem, and regulated the pressure on the vacuum modulator on the transmission, and that seemed to take care of the problem until I disconnected the battery to put in a new radio, then the problem returned. Once again we regulated the pressure and that seemed to fix it. Yesterday I took it to the same mechanic after we replaced the battery, and he tells me the pressure is fine now, and is not sure what is causing the issue. The transmission fluid is good and has been changed regularly (every 25k). Has anyone seen this issue before? Any idea how to solve it? Any help is greatly appreciated

you need a new trans. your front pump on the trans is not giving enough pressure to the solinoids to shift so you have to let off the gas to get pressure to build to shift.

is there a another way i can make this work without changeing the trans, or could it be the solinoids that is making it not to shift.

It still sounds like a case of a key part of the auto tranny dying. Might want to start looking around Sorry man.

well I've never had YOUR problem with my 5 spd. tranny so you would avoid this problem altogether.

Perhaps ACEOFSPADES is right about your tranny. TRY to see if anyone has fixed this particular issue ( in reality you're probably not going to find much because the majority of people swap out the autos for 5 spd. trannies) on this forum and at www.teamfc3s.org.forum

Good luck and look in the FOR SALE SECTIONS ON BOTH FORUMS ( i recall someone selling a TII tranny with 26K miles for 350 bux)

sounds really bizzare man. I would look at replacing it, way cheaper than trying to find the problem. If the mazda dealer and a mechanic are stumped at what it could be then it doesnt sound common.

My auto trans all of a sudden just started to change out of the gears into neutral. Thankfully I could find a decent replacement and get it fitted.

I have one.... but you should look locally. Shipping on a transmission is a bitch.

Thread edited to have a real title, instead of the BS one that it was started with.

and for sale and wanted ads should be posted in the For Sale/ Wanted section of the board.

You are not going to get any better help here then you are already getting from you transmission specialist. I rebuilt an automatic transmission from an Audi. Most mechanics won't go anywhere near an auto rebuild. There are some auto transmission rebuild books for specific models of cars. You should be able to get one from you transmission rebuild supplier. I used to one below.

^^ Yeah, my friend (who isn't the brightest bulb, and has very little mechanic experience) rebuilt his AW4 in his Cherokee by himself with nothing more than common tools, some large sockets, etc... He had one of those manuals as well. I drove the car... it shifted like a new tranny when done.

So, its entirely possible to rebuild yourself.. but the 7's tranny requires some very special sockets. I say if you can get the sockets, pullers, etc... go for it! And when you do, make a write-up!

Here it is, just waiting for you! Make an account and go for it!
