convertable tops

Im looking at an S4 convertable for cheap, but it probably needs a top, how much do they run and how hard is it to replace? also is there anything else i need to watch out for with a Convertiable that would be different in coupe?(like a common rust spot.)
Thanks
Tim

I see the top replacement kits (usually require you re-use the window parts) on eBay all the time for about $300. I believe I've seen people post about having done the replacement themselves, but also that it took a good bit of work and was a bit harrowing because of the worry of screwing up and having to buy a new one.

Can't say much in the way about things to look for in particular with the 'verts though... I bought mine pretty much knowing it had a lot of problems but not caring because I was looking forward to the challenge of fixing them. :P Checking that the top will go down and up properly would probably be good of course.

Yep about $300 and like ashyukun said, some people have done it themselves but it's one of those things that not everyone will want to tackle. I'm still undecided if I'll do it myself or not.

replacing the tops

considering that is what keeps the outside in, should be a professional install exercise.

I started to do it.. Noticed it was a lot more work then I thought so I stopped and decided that when I put my new top on, its getting done proffesionally that way if they screw up, they fix it
