confused about diff mounts

1988 GTU

i broke my diff mounts and went to the mazdatrix site ( http://www.mazdatrix.com/g8.htm ).

i'm confused cuz the site says that the 86-89 model needs **2 per car**.

i'm confused cuz a rotary mechanic told me that i only have 1 or only need 1, i forgot which of the two things he told me. memory isn't helping me much right now

just to make sure, these are the diff mounts i need right ?......

i didn't see a mention of a "competition" mount or bushing whatever u wanna call it on the mazdatrix site, but does anyone know if they sell it?

That picture you attched is for the rear diff mount. The front is pictured in the first 2 pictures. The comp is the middle. Try Mazdacomp for better service and prices. I bought my competition one for $70.

Those are the rear differntial mounts. There are two of those, and a front differential mount (for a total of 3 different mounts) for the differential assembly.

Normally many people prefer to replace the front differential mount: with the competition one. The rear mounts only need replacing if worn, or if you want a very tight rear end and are using urathane repalcements.

It's very rare for the rear to go out. The front takes a lot of stress from hard launches and everyday stress.
If you hear a "thump" everytime from a stop and go, then that's it. The front mount.
It is a bitch to change for the first timer. Search the forum as many have had various ways to change them.
If you find one that says to drop the whole rear subframe and diff....don't use that. That was not really necessary.

icemark, would u recommend me change all of them since i will be doing work down there? or should i just fix the one that is broken and wait for the other to wear out? i do hard take offs every weekend or so, what should i look at to see if the rear mount is about to go? what should i look for to see if the front is about to go?

i asked both these questions just in case only 1 of my mounts broke so i can check the other "good" one

I have never seen a rear diff mount bad enough that it needs replacing... I am aure it happens, I just have never seen one.

If you dump the clutch a lot or have other hard accelleration issues, then the front one is probably manditory.
