Clutches!?!?
After i got my tranny out, i should inspect all of those clutch components. I find that my Clutch plate is almost near the rivits, And the (sorry i can't reemmber) the piece thats about 9 inches across, whats that called? has excessive wear on the teeth. And the backing has changed colour due to heat! in 3 places. my mechics teacher says its f****ed what do you guys think? I dont want a stock clutch...so, what kind of performance clutch do u think? how about a clutchmaster stage 1 clutch? Or do you think a stock clutch would be fine?!
Thanks so much

IMO is an acronym for In My Opinion, same as IMHO (In my humble opinion).
Any Rx-7 atermarket shop can hook you up with ACT...
SRX7.com has a wicked flywheel/clutch combo up right now.

Well.....I put the following new OEM part on my '87 TII:
Flywheel
Pressure Plate
Clutch
Slave / Master cylinders
hydraulic lines
trans. mounts
pilot and TO bearings
trans. front and rear seals as well as engine rear main seal.
probably some other things I forgot
Guess what....over $700.00....everything assembled properly and extremely clean (no oil...not even a finger print) and at less than 1000 miles it has started slipping. I have not even raced it yet!
So.....don't use the stock clutch....i'm getting an ACT I think!

He was describing a pressure plate, and for simplicity, I used the terms he used in order to ensure he got the point.
Had I referred to "excessive wear on the fingers of the pressure plate", he might not have understood.
I recommend ACT still. I am aware it is not the cheapest, but for its money, it is the best, IMHO.

about centerforce clutches well me and 5 t2 guy in my town did a group buy on them when they first got popular. Well we found out the hard way that centerfroce dual friction (there best one) is great just as long as you have nothing done to your car to make more HP. every single one of the 5 clutchs we bought slipped and we all followed the break in. to make a long story short the suck. Well ACT is alot better they are also hipe. if you want a bad *** clutch get a Clutch masters. just to show you what there mad of compare the center section of the clutches Clutch masters has a custom piece inside insuring strangth the other all look stock I have yet to seen one slip. the stage 3 is good for street to if you crank out alittle power. I have found out that form they above Clutch Masters seperates the MEN form the boys. now tilton is aonther class of clutch. thats another story.

you don't want a puck clutch for street use. They can work just fine, but it's pretty damn harsh on your car. An dyeah a clutch masters clutch is by far the best, just take a look at the price tag though...OUCH. I've got my ACT on order and it should be here any day now....happy happy joy joy!!

Has anyone else had problems with the centerforce dual friction .I just bought one and haven't installed it yet.I've done alot of mods to my car and don't want to end up installing a clutch again when I find out Its slipping as soon as I install it.

I heard nothin but bad stuff about the dual friction centerforce. I believe I had a thread called "mad-crazy clutch slipping/burning" And a dude gave me some advice against the CF-DF clutch. But since I didn't ever have one myself, I really can't say, but I would stay away from it if I were you.

With power like that, I assume you have the cash to support it, so the best thing to do is starve yourself for a few months and get a clutch masters stage 3. Maybe sell a few organs too

Okie, so stay away from the centerforce clutches cause they suck de ballz, but I have another question, its a bit off topic but what can you do.
The centerforce 14lbs lightweight flywheel, does anyone know if they are any good? or does centerforce pretty much just make crap?
thanks
