clutch problems with pics....please read

I think the throwout bearing is messed up in my car. I pulled the pressure plate off, and the throwout bearing wore about halfway through the fingers on the pressure plate. Also, the wear on the flywheel and pressure plate friction surface is weird. The wear on the clutch plate matches it.

I do need to replace the throwout bearing, right? What about clutch disk? I do plan on resurfacing the flywheel while its out, and I have a new pressure palte already.

Heres the pics:

Everything else is pretty cheap, the pressure plate is the expensive part really, go ahead and replace all of it including the pilot bearing. Why redo the work later cause you didn't replace some cheap parts while you were there.

Here's my take -

- Replace the clutch and pressure plate. Both look iffy, and if they're out of the car, go ahead and do it.

- Replace the throwout bearing.

- Inspect the pilot bearing - if the needles are still all in there and it's happy, grease it up good with a heavy grease and rock and roll. If it's messed up, replace it.

- The flywheel looks OK - if there are any gouges that can catch your fingernail, it might need resurfacing. But, just the burn marks are no big deal - they ALL look like that. Go over the surface with some emery cloth or sandpaper and clean it really good with brake cleaner - done deal.

The thing is EVERYTHING there is only 20K miles old. Im not replacing the pilot bearing, its in great shape. I already have a new pressure plate(Racing Beat race PP), and I got a new throwout bearing today. I might use one of my other clutch disks. That one looks like it has A LOT more than 20K miles on it.

The racing bear PP is one of the main reasons I pulled my tranny. And Im really glad I did it when I did. I would have hated to find that out the hard way.

IVe been having a bad sqealing sound when my car was warm for the past week. I guess this was the cause.

The flywheel and pressure plate look like they have been overheated due to excessive slippage. the clutch disk (friction disk) has wear left in it. Due to it's relatively low cost i would put a new one in anyway.

If this is all from less then 20K miles I would evaluate how you are driving. Hopefully your new Pressure plate will preform better for you.

My clutch did not look "burnt" When I changed mine after 100K miles. If I need to really put the power down I would rather spin the tires then slip the clutch for a long period of time at high RPM. The heat disipates from the tires easier than the clutch. Buying tires is easier then replacing the clutch too.

Part of the problem was I had a cheap stock replacement clutch. And having a motor making 50-60 hp over stock, with a weaker than stock clutch is a bad idea. It had nothing to do with my driving style. Im easier on clutches than anyone I know. It simply wasnt up to me engine.

I already have another disc in, and everything is back together. My car is SO much better with the new pressure plate. I got a racing beat race PP, and I love the feel of it. And it has plenty of holding power with the stock disc I have on it.
