check engine came on -- problem accelerating

about 1-2 weeks ago my check engine came on for the first time and it jerked forward once, then it continued to drive fine, this happened 3 times over a 15 minute drive. a friend said this could have been a hickup and i thought it was until last night.
last night, my check engine came on again, and i couldnt boost at all, the more i stepped on the peddle the more it felt like i was towing 100,000 lbs.
i turned my car off and parked for about an hour, got back in, and the car ran just fine.
so i would love for some suggestions on what this could be. (1991 turbo swap)

Check what code was logged.

And sounds a lot like limp mode. So my first guess is you'll pull some OMP codes.

Let us know.

That. Since you say swap and check engine light I assume you're using a n370 ecu.

There should be a check connector plug near the leading coil that has but one wire. Ground this wire and w/key to on the CEL will provide you with any error codes.

Check wires on crankshaft position senser. I had a chafed wire and the engine started hiccuping the more gas I gave It the worse it got. Eventually the wire broke and engine would not turn over. That's when I found the problem.

This is a well documented problem-Pay attention!

You don't need and cannot get an OBD1 scan. Here is a link to tell you how to pull your own codes:

http://www.1300cc.com/howto/how2/codes.html

If you drive the car with any OMP codes(MOP), then you will burn up your ECU.
Ask me how I know.

Good luck.
