causes of running rich....

what makes a rx7 run rich? what are the most common causes for WAY to much fuel getting dummped? i have not had time yet to take my manifolds apart and test/swap around the fuel injectors but that is really the only thing i've come up with. Before i do this i am wondering if anyone could give me other reasons for running way to rich.

define WAY rich...fuel pouring out your exhaust? or near the top of "rich" portion of your AFR gauge? do you have wideband?is it turbo or N/A?

If its a turbo car it will be factory tuned to run rich in order to compensate for the boost........so if you are just seeing a rich mixture on your AFR gauge then you shouldn't be worried

edit: how does the car run?

how many km's on the car?
have you tried checking your basics?

-plugs/wires
-compression
-oil (level and condition)
-coolant (is it PUKING coolant into your overflow upon a cold start?)

what do you mean smoking catalytic converters? do you mean theres a TONNE of smoke coming out your tailpipe?

so now i have it set correctly after driving for 10 min of warming the car up......no longer runs rich

and im not too sure if the tps messes with how much fuel goes into the car...but now longer am getting the black soot on the rear of my vert

yes i've checked the usual things.
so the causes of rinning rich that we have determend so far are:
1. bad injector
2. TPS out of spec
any more...?
BTW: could a messed up or even disscontected TPS cause running so rich that the car does not want to start?

Do you have any concrete proof that it is running rich, or are you just guessing? Also, I kinda doubt a bad injector would cause it to run rich. Normally they cause it run lean.

good point, no concrete proof. how would u get concrete proof? the proof i have is that.... its nearly impossible to start and smells of gas. it always starts when being pulled with the rpm above 1500. it will die below about 1500 - 2k rpm. there is a power loss when it starts smoking and the cat. converters glow red. and i've checked for everything else that i can think of.... vaccume leak, timing, spark, ect
