Cat inspection

Welp, I just got my first 2 FC's. 1987, 1988 GTU's n/a (good engines to boot!) One parts, one goodone. So I take the goodone down to the inspection station for some laughs, and as I expected, bad middle cat, hollow main converter, and I havn't even looked at the first cat. The Second converter has a big rust hole in it. The converter on the other FC is swiss cheesed more then mine. So I head on over to mazda trix and take a look at all 3 replacement parts. I damn near cried.

On to the question, If I bought a header, that went straight down and bolted into the main converter... would it pass inspection in MD? Would the header/race cat from mazda trix pass a visual inspection? (i'm not worried about emissions, it just passed and it should be fine since next year it becomes a classic car... No more inspection/emissions. W00t)

Next question. Wheel hub. How difficult is it to perform the bearing removal listed on mazda trix's website. I've got spare hubs from the 87 FC, but I dunno if they will match up. Any tips/ idea's from EXP with this?

Thanks!

I'm a Canadian, so I don't know your emssions laws.

The Bearings shouldn't be too hard. Take your time and be careful with the grinder, and make sure you use a proper bearing installation tool and you'll be set.

However, the hubs are interchangable among the year types and will fit provided they have the same lug pattern (4 bolt vs. 5 bolt).

I have run into the same thing regarding the cats. Here's what I am looking at.

BTW I nearly soiled myself when the dealership told me how much replacement cats were.

I purchased and installed the Bonez Superflo Cat with presilencer, and I highly recommend it. It got me through the E-Check here with flying colors. (See the Repairs page on my site:
