Exclamation car is slow

hey guys, I have a 87 turbo. all of a sudden my car is idles really werid. when I first start the car the idle keeps going up to redline, but when i step on the gas pedal it'll go down to idling at 1500 rpm and runs like crap. timing is messed up, i've tried fixing it but didn't work. I've tried replacing the ecu but it didnt work either. any ideas or suggestions? thx!

Well first you should get the timing set. Have you checked for vacuum leaks? Have you done a compression test? What made all this start happening?

Check for vacuum leaks from disconnected hoses or something.

If you tried to check the timing at a higher RPM than idle, the marks are not going to be dead on because the timing advances on its own as the RPMs get higher.

I've checked and couldn't find any vacuum leak. is there any other possible problem that could cause the idling problem? when I start the car the idle keeps going up "none stop" but when I step on the gas pedal it'll go back down to 1500 rpm.!

aws will try to rev to about 3-5k on a cold start. Its supposed to goto 3, but mine always went to around 4.5 unless i blipped it back down.

Check your fast idle cam- maybe it's doing something REALLY weird?

Try disconnecting a wire off of the radiator temp switch- if it doesn't do it then, then it's an electrical problem...

if you want to adjust your timing, you must do it at as close to 750 rpm as you can. that said, you probably can't do that in your situation. something i remember reading off a thread not too long ago was to have an assistant put it in 5th gear, and use the clutch (slowly engaging it) to drop the revs to ~750 rpm. make sure the handbrake is engaged, and i say 5th gear because there is less possibility of the car moving (as opposed to 1st gear). this way, you can set your timing properly...

Then it was adjusted wrong or busted.

It should never exceed 3K
