Car Radio!

Anyone ever put their CD player on AM radio and have a whining noise that mimicks the engine speed? Ex: gets louder as rpms go higher, and lower as rpms go lower?

does anyone have any idea what could be causing that? It only does it on A.M. radio..

Clicking that varies with engine speed= spark plugs or plug wires
High pitched whine that varies with engine speed = ground loop. Some part of the system has a differernt ground potential than the other (most commonly found when using crappy audio parts together- or shorted ground wires in RCA/Sheilded wires) or a bad alternator (but that is pretty rare to have actual radio noice from).

High pitched whine only on AM = poor radio and antenna ground
Poor AM or FM reception = poor antenna ground

Icemark is spot on. Another quick check if you have an amp installed is to grab your RCA cables while you hear the noise and flex them slightly from one end to the other. If the noise level changes at all, you've found a bad cable. I had this happen to me on more than one occasion, and using high-end cables as well. Also, experiment with your grounding locations, I prefer to use a ground point on the body somewhere closest to the component being grounded, for example, when I mount an amp under a seat I like to use the seat belt anchor bolt for grounding.

I had a problem similar with my FC.
I put in a radio and grounded it to the blue & yellow radio wire

But I could only hear the engine whirr when the sound was turned to below 5 (AM & FM)
And when I revved, the sound pitched higher
And, when I turned on the headlight switch the radio would cut off

So, to fix the problem, I grounded the radio behind the drivers side access panel to some 10mm bolt

Hope this helps!

Blue/Yellow at the radio would be the power antenna trigger
