Can't budge short oil cooler line (male) : Help!

Trying to take off the short oil cooler line from the engine(86na). It has a male threaded end going into the engine. There seems to be an outer nut in the hose to hold it in place while manipulating the smaller hex fitting. I can't get the smaller hex to budge with respect to the larger OD hex. The male end is loose with respect to the engine.

The small fitting isn't press fit into the larger one is it?

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Should I be able to loosen this bolt (male) without rotating the hose?

Right...2 nuts. But that's just it....I can't budge that outer nut....its really on there.

Is this common for the outer nut to be stuck?

Going to replace it with steel braded hose from Corksport....maybe at this point it doesn't matter if I just cut the hose.

There's a union screwed into the housing. Then the hose nut screws on to that union. You need to break the hose nut from the union. If you can.

If you have the new hose on the way, I guess you could cut the thing off. Its a shame, because you could have used the old one as a spare.

those things are a bitch, this is what i had to do one time but i dont recomend it. I put some big vise grips on it and beat the *** out of it with a hammer until it moved, then just used a wrench the rest of the way. Good luck.

same problem

I just replaced my oil cooler lines this weekend and had the same problem. I ended up cutting the metal part of the hose, unscrewing both from the engine together, and then separating them. It would have been nice to have a spare, but mine were in pretty bad shape. Good luck..

There's an easy way to do it. You may need to remove the belly pan for this. Get an adjustable wrench, and set it for the size of the inner nut. Now set a jackstand on the ground below the wrench. Wedge a piece of 2x4 between the jackstand and the wrench so it's solid. Now, with a pair of vice grips (or even better, the properly sized wrench) loosen the outer nut. Works everytime.

Do NOT put much stress on the hose, it will bend.
