I thought a pulsation damper was used in the warp drive system on the starship enterprise, maybe I'm wrong.

aight...the pulsation damper is the first gadget the fuel line goes into. In order to get to it you have to pull off the whole intake aside from the manifold. After you pull all of this off just follow your fuel lines to the primary fuel rail. The FPD is the pressure regulator mushroom looking thing there to the rear of the rail. You can't miss it.

By the way, how do you know the FPD is bad? Do you smell fuel? If you have an S5 there's a good chance there isn't anything wrong with it. If it's an S4, well they're all crap, and replace with one off of an S5. Anything else just let us know and we'll do our best.

Just get a Heynes book, it's not the MOST helpful, but it will show you exactly where the FPD is and how to test it.

Don't blow anything up...

I wish this S5 fuel rail is better thing would die, instead of people continuing to suggest that they are a perfectly safe alternative.

The fuel rails on the S5/S6 can fail just as easy as the S4 rails. The S5/S6 rail is no safer; it has the same type of fire hazard as the S4.

The only two reasons that the S4 tend to fail more is that they are on older cars and second, that the adjustment screw that occasionally comes out gets re-installed incorrectly, causing radically early failure.

But the big advantage of the S4 rail is that the PD can be replaced without replacing the whole rail, so it has a considerable cost savings. Or if you are very concerned the PD can be replaced with a Banjo Bolt which the S5 and S6 rails can not.

But with normal (and my recommended in countless posts) 10 year replacement you shouldn't have a problem with any PD.

The reason I said the S4 damper is crap is because of the age and tendency for that lil screw to back out. Both the S4 and S5 share a similar fire hazard but the S4 damper has more years and weaker internals than the S5. This is why I have always sugested the S5 rail. I don't contend that either is better...I just feel that the S5 is just lower maintainence alternative.

I do, however, personally feel the S4 rails are crap. I've had 3 S4 cars and each has had the damper fail...and one burst into flames (only minor damage though...got it out real quick).

So I guess $60 is not much money for you, that you can afford to replace a S4 PD and rail with an S5 rail (which is just as prone to failure) instead of just replaceing the S4 PD (which last I checked was $60+ cheaper than a new S5 rail+ spacers).

Or were you using used S5 rails and expecting them never to leak.

Hmmm... Lets think about that.

Its a GTUs (supposedly), so that makes it an S5. That means the PD is at the end of the fuel rail facing the firewall. But Dr0x is right, it is at the end of the smaller (lower) rail.

If thats what you meant, then sorry...

Jarrett

Mazdatrix's websites also supports the fact that s5 and s6's pd's can fail just as much as s4's. I just ordered a new s4 PD from them, I figure the car is been running and that PD has been working fine since 1986...so if every say 14 years it needs to be replaced thats ok...but, the thing I haven't read, is has anyone (or multiple people I guess, because I'm sure 1 or 2 has) had the PD fail before say 90k miles??

I think Reted had one fail at 72K miles, but again it was past the 10 year life span of the PDs and on a T2 (which has considerably higher underhood temps).

Hey welcome to team GTUs!!! Lets see some pic's of your ride, you have any? When did you get it? How many miles are on it? What mods you done?

The PD is on the end of your primary fuel rail. This is the smaller fuel rail mounted to the engine housings hidden deep under the intake plenum.

i hear the S5 pulsation dampers are not as prone to going up in fames like the s4's. Though, it can still happen.

Ya it can still happen, just like FDs can too. Prolly not as prone also since they aren't quite as old too.
