Wow, a Turbo II with manual steering. How rare is that? Hopefully the wiring for the steering controller and the steering angle sensor are in place, but they probably are. My '87 Sport was wired for a lot of stuff that it wasn't equipped with. You'll need the steering controller, the PS pump, hoses, rack and the PS pump bracket if your engine doesn't have one.

It is plug and play to add it. Just bolt all the power steering parts in and plug the power steering computer in, and you are good to go.

And about 50% of the 87 Turbos came with manual steering.

weight. power steering pump steals some power away from the engine. no ps pump = cleaner engine bay

yes my 87 didnt have it either,
i liek the power steering over the manual,
1. its easyer to turn,im lazy lol
tighter lock to lock , its like 2.7 turns L-L instead of 3.5 or something with manual, i find i can turn harder corners with alot smaller hand movments.

i am also debating doing this,

i need pump and its sensors? the computer?

what parts do i need off of the actual steering components???

You need the pump and all the stuff attached directly to it, the power steering rack, and the computer (it's under the steering wheel). You might want to get new hoses to go between the pump and the rack. That's it.

Not all early cars came wired for PS. I tried this once myself several years back on an 86 base and found that the wiring itself did not exist in the car, so it never worked properly.

Look under your fuse box in the enginebay. If you dont have a white 2 wire plug and a white 6 wire plug hanging loose, then you dont have the proper wiring in the car and should not attempt it. There would also be a large white/clear gang plug under the dash, by the drivers knee area, behind the speaker. That's where the power steering computer goes.

My '87 didn't have it, and I prefer it that way.

In fact, IME, the majority of 1987 Turbo II's are manual.
Stepping up to 1988, IME, the majority of them are PS.
All Kouki FC turbos should be PS standard.

(Power) sunroof, PW, and A / C was all standard equipment.
Options on the (1987) Turbo II was power locks(?), ABS, and CD player.
Majority of the 1987's don't have power locks - in fact, I can't think of ANY '87 I came across that had them.
I know 1988 Turbo II's had them, and they are standard on all Kouki FC turbos.

Better road feel...
Power steering makes steering feedback very vague.
I prefer manual steering.
In fact, the majority of cars (outside of the FC) have less feedback with power steering.
