Cameras on our cars?

Cameras on our cars?
I just bought a miniatur camera(b/w) and I need to know if anyone has put one of those devices that switches the current from DC to AC. The cammera is DC operable but I want to put in a VCR and Maybe a small TV so I can tape my races and driving so I can study my mistakes when driving spiritedly. does it strain the electrical system a lot or is it ok to run such a setup and if anyone has done this let me know how you accomplished this. I want to set it up like this because a camcorder is like 4-500 and I got the cammera for 100 with all the connections and adapters. Thanks

You can get a power convertor to run AC stuff in a car, but I think the TV and VCR are a waste. Really, if you want to watch your runs over and over in the car (PARKED I hope ) cant you just watch it in the viewfinder? You dont need sound that bad, right? Not to mention the bitch of mounting the **** so its not bouncing around. Camera mounting will be a big enough bitch.

it is a micro cam not a handheld I only want the tv in there so it will give me a chance to make sure it is working right. I would really only have the VCR in there after I set it up. A light VCR can weigh really little maybe 10lbs the camera will weigh less than the 8AAs it uses to power it. I just want to record my races so people believe my kills and that way they won't have anything to de-bunk my story.

The best video cam setup is a unit with image stabilazation.
You mount it on a tripod held in place with bungee cords.
A cheap alternative is a small AIPtec pocket DVcam ($130) taped to your helmet. It will record 20 minutes on a 64K flash card, and has a built in flip out view screen & speaker.

dam you I'm doing that very soon but color
I've been looking for a good camera to use for a while now. you can get 12v car vcrs off ebay for $70usd.
mini cameras use like 300ma. you can run that off a AA battery... not gona harm your battery. but I'm not sure how much the vcr takes.
your camera is mostly likey already DC isn't it? all the ones I've see are. just don't use the plug it comes with. that is converting from ac to dc. cut it off and run DC to the camera. you just gota know if it's 12v or not. if not you'll have to rig something up. that's my problem the camera I want is 4v

Yup a didi video cam would be too much for me.
Right on the cam is 12v 300mabut I would rather hav the batt pack because I want to try different positions on the car like the front bumper cover, hood, sunroof, rear bumper, inside for speed runs, and in my hand just for fun. Thanks for the info on car VCR's I would like to rig that tri point thingie but would not know how to start on that.

Scott - here are some samples:
Closeup (in mirror) - It's smaller than a cigarette pack, and a little thicker .click
Here is a video of my office & bench .click
A still shot of the bench clutter .click
A long shot of the parking lot (with red RX-7) .click
I hope these links all work.
I found it in the web cam section at Best Buy. It will record 20-30 minutes on a 64K flash card or >200 pics.

Yo,
You might want to check out:
www.conecam.com
They have a neat set up, as well as cool suction cup mounts.
Hope that helps!
