Camden SC install.. WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Alright, well I finally decided to install the Camden SC I had sitting in my room this weekend and this is how it went.

Started off with a S5 N/A Block with about 40k miles on it.


I took off all of the stock intake manifolds..


I also had to take out the stock pullies and install the ones from camden for the cerpetien belt setup.


Now I installed the lower manifold for the SC.


Here is the SC installed along with the FPR and fuel rails.



Here is the upper manifold installed on the SC.


Here is the complete setup done.


I wanted the car to apear stock and the SC to look OEM so I used the stock air box with a K&N drop in filter instead of my cold air intake.

We had a few problems with fuel leaks.. 2 of wich were I that I used the orginal injector O-rings when I put then into the new fuel rail.. and well I guess the cracked. I installed new ones and I have no more leaks of anything.

The idle is a bit tricky, I got it to idle around 800 rpms.



I got the idle smooth around 900 rpms seems to like to idle smooth around 14 a/f. but when you come off high throttle the engine will simplie die. You have to play with the throttle to get it to idle smooth again. I will install the dash pot into the TB and see if that helps.

For now I just put the idle around 1300rpms and it idle fines and doesn't die when coming off throttle.



Now for the test drive, I don't think the fuel system is up to shape to get into high rpms.. fuel system right now is stock besided the raising rate FPR. I will be installing some 550CC X 720CC soon, along with a walbro fuel pump.

Drive feels smooth, SC isn't to loud but it is noticable. I took 2nd gear from 2k-6k A/F ratios where right at 10.5-11.1 till about 6k.. at which point it started going 11.5 so I let off, and thats with the SAFC at +30% correction at 6k. It definitly pulls harder.I never driven a stock T2 so I'm not to sure what to compare it to. It has full boost by about 2.5k which is about 6psi. I will be getting some injectors soon that way I can actually drive into the powerband. It really started to pick up around 6k but I had let do to a/f ratios.

So far I'm happy with the setup, although it I ran into alot off small problems, mainly oil leaks and fuel leaks. So it was really time consuming. Too about 1 day and 1/2 to do the install... manly do to little **** I ran into.. but for now I'm glad she is running.

I well report back onces I got the bigger injectors, fuel pump and get it tuned.

I will also be a mazdafest, so that will be a good comparison, I think the fastest time I had there was 2:28 in Configuration 13A so will see what I get this time with the charger on.

glad to see yet another s/c'd na .... althoe i do feel that the uper intake for that kits looks awful in terms of flow and whatnot but im sure camden put some though into it ... either way great to see thats shes working man congrats and keep us posted on ur progress

Thats a nice setup. I REALLY like the way you've kept the stock look of the whole system.

What are you using to control the AFR?

I can give you some advice I've found while tuning MegaSquirts: I reccomend you set idle to around 12:1 and then play with pulling or adding to the timing a bit. I know it sounds weird, but I can usually get a rock solid idle, even with a lightweight flywheel, at 750RPM, by pulling around negitive five degrees of timing.

MuyThaiBxr wrote some code for the MS so that when you lift off the throttle, the timing stays up on decel, for a set period of time, so that the engine doesnt die even if you have a phenominally low idle, then it 'eases' the timing back.

You might want to try something similar, or just bring your idle timing to more advanced and sacrifice the smoothness.


Did you remove the dashpot on your throttle? If you still have it, you might want to just adjust that/make sure it works. But that only functions for when you sidestep the throttle or otherwise slam it shut.




How much was the kit for you, if you dont mind me asking? Did it come with the lines and FPR?

Right now to controll the fuel I'm using SAFC piggy back.

Yea, I currently do have the dashpot removed from the throttle, so will be installing that soon to see if it can help it from dieing when I let off the throttle.

The SC kit was used with about 2k miles on it, I payed about 1.3k with a SAFCII, FD pump and a few misc stuff.

Awesome. I'm glad to see that someone else do this SC project. I'm right in the middle of mine too. However I'll be building mine from scratch sort of, With a millenia lysholm SC instead. I will be using the Camden pulleys too though from the looks of it. My SC build to be in case you're curious. It has gone thru so many design changes since inception but have yet to have my brackets fabbed.

Wonder if I could trade notes with you since there will be a lot of similarities with what I intend to do. I'm really curious to see what kind of dyno numbers you'd get with the bigger injectors. Anyway, Wish you the best of luck tuning yours.

I ran a 14.7 with a horrible 60 foot not trap speed, you should defintley be able to do better considering you've got more tools than I started off with, and did things right the first time around.

Those intakes are fine for a SC. All they need to be is big enough.

Standing wave resonance & flow efficiency is a very minor factor once you stick a supercharger in there.

Nice work trainwreck. It almost looks like a factory job.

I saw Brett De Pedro install one of these on a 2nd at his shop and it layed down 197rwhp and the owner was pissed after 4k spent.

Nope, Not mimmicking that but the pulley/SC setup being very similar. Sonic, take a look at https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showthread.php?t=527282. I'm keeping my stock manifolds after considering the alternative but maybe you can give me some pointers.

Trainwreck, I think you should be able to get way more than 197hp with the larger injectors and fuel upgrades. I thot you put in an Fd pump? Just wondering how much boost at redline for that blower though. And how much did the intake air temps go up? How much fuel pressure are you currently running?

is it just me or is 11.5:1 AFR the perfect spot for an RX7?...

if not on a SC application, what difference would it make from a turbo model?...

I generally run a little safer then 11:5, but thats not altogether an unsafe AFR.

A supercharger is not so much about high end power as it is about broad mid band torque.
In daily driving, that's where the fun is anyway.

With a roots, you really need all of those minor factors you can get.

I did include the FD Fuel Pump that I bought from dDub, apparently it was junk, and probbaly what killed my engine (fuel starvation) as he said it was only putting out low PSI and the regular was putting out high.

Drive train will hold up, despite what people said, I ran around for a long time doing high rpm drops and drag racing it at the track.

He will be able to get more power with injectors and fuel pump as he has the smaller over drive pulley sitting at his house.

As for the guy that complained about only putting down 197 hp (roughly around 220hp crank) WHAT THE HELL, that's almost a full 80rwhp gain, every supercharger setup I've seen nets the same thing on any car, from N/A to Supercharged theres a big difference, I wouldnt go from turbo to Supercharged because it would be pointless.

Despite the people who have never owned one saying they suck blahblah, I loved it, and the only reason I got rid of it was to fix my car - the torque was awesome and it pulled hard (according to everyone who drove it, not just me) all the way to 8k rpm, and kept wanting to go past that.;

That's what I'm trying for. I do believe blown is beautiful but I'm getting twin screwed (As in Millenia SC). Wonder if it'll be twice as nice. Never had twins before LOLOLOLOL.

Saying they gained 80rwhp from the blower itself is rather absurd. By that point, I'm sure they had upgraded exhaust and probably a better intake setup, as well as some form of fuel management, which in N/A form could easily have netted 160whp. The gains are a lot less usually.

god.... how many motors is this same freaking supercharger going to eat?

this things gone from Washington to Sacramento to Louisiana and now down to Los Angeles.

damn thing has more flight miles on it than actual street miles.

lool, it's the ***** supercharger, actually I didn't have the fuel pressure gauge hooked up (crappy AFPR that Camden includes with no tap for it, doh) and apparently it was real low psi wise...he said he heard it clicking I never heard it so that might have been when the fuel pump went so did my engine...dunno :'(

I miss her turbo, supercharger, whatever, I'm getting another one soon enough...

HEY DON"T JINKIES ME NOW!!!!!!!!!

I don't plan on making crazy power Only boosting 6psi. I just wanted a bit more torque coming out of the corners on open track days. So I think I will be just fine as long as I don't run lean.

Like I said, I don't plain on making crazy power.. I already have a 306rwhp 1700lb rx-2.Soon to get a GT40R and more boost. Shooting for 400RWHP on pump gas on that setup.

And if that guy was looking for power, he should have gone with a turbo setup. Thats where the power is.

I figured SC would be easier for me as the engine is in great shape and would be alot easier then getting a jspec and rebuilding it, alot cheaper too.

Yea, I tuned my rx-2 for 11.8 at 10psi, but since this is a S5 high comp engine, the SC doesn't have an IC, and that this charger seems to like blowing engines, I want to keep things on the Safe side an tune for 11.0.

Going to use 550ccX650cc Injector combo on a T2 or walbro fuel pump. Which should be in by this weekend.
