camber plate q's

how hard is it to get front camber plates to fit on tokicos? I know you have to grind them down or something but is it hard or do you need a lave or something to make it perfect?

also will they effect my ride height at all? I can't go any lower. I'd probably be getting the ones from mazdacomp if that makes a diff.

I really need some.

Go with Ground Control camber plates... I'm using them in conjunction with their coilovers and they tend to be better than the majority of the competition. The ones available from Mazda Motorsports look identical to the Ground Controls and may be the same. Give them a call and find out. If so, they look a few dollars cheaper. I don't know about the Tokico's fitting, I used KYB AGXs and did have to machine them down. I paid a machinist with a lathe to do the work and it only cost me $20. Once again, give them a call. They will know the answer.

EDIT: ****, sorry.. I didn't see that you wanted to use stock springs... I don't think its possible to do what you want. Why would you want CC plates without converting to coilovers anyways?

Those Eibach progressive springs are nothing compared to a coilover setup... The size of the spring at the mounting point severely limits your ability to move the spring around, thus no cc plates for the stock springs. Take the $300, add $100 to it and go for the coilovers. You'll notice a much bigger improvement.

Thumbs down

I dont like th Ground Control camber plates I will be taking them off my car ASAP ( well when I get back to the USA ) and installing the Cusco.

I hate the way the clank and pop sounds like your car is going to fall apart.

Mine make no sound at all and are very solid. I know exactly why you are having a problem. If you look at the bottom of the brass spacer you will see a gap between the spacer and the bearing of the cc plate. The spacer cannot seat properly because it is resting on the shock shaft, not the cc plate. If you push down on that corner, you should be able to notice the shock assembly moving up and down in the bearing. There are two ways to fix this.
1. Take the shocks out and machine the lip down a little more.
or
2. You need a washer with a slightly larger inner diameter then the brass spacer's ID. Machine the outside diameter down (grinding wheel) until it will fit over the bearing without causing binding in the movement of the joint. Make sure the washer is thick enough to fill the gap and you have a fixed car. (this is the method I chose)

The Cusco plate are not nearly as thick as the GC ones and will need to be replaced much sooner than the GC ones.

Ground Control plates are the same as Mazdatrix and Mazda Comp. Get them from Ground Control and tell them you're using Tokicos. They'll include a small adpater bushing. There is no machining required.

Even though I have them I'd have to say take a look at Speedsource plates before buying the GCs. The Speedsource plates are top mount which should give you more wheel travle than the GCs. Prices are very similar too.

On either expect a much firmer ride. You're replacing the rubber bushing/spring perch with a solid metal bearing.

Chris,
Do you have a URL for Speedsource? I'm not coming up with anything in a search. Thanks.

Here ya go. They've been advertising a sale on the plates in Sports Car for $275. Like I said, I've never used them or even seen them. But the idea of them being top-mounted and knowing Speedsource is THE most succesful ITS RX7 racing team adds some creadence to their products.
