A/C problem

My a/c compressor clutch does not engage whenever I press AC button. I've tried replacing air control unit, but that didn't change anything. Is there a relay i should check.? If so where is it located? Any other reason why ac compressor is not getting 12v?

you need to check the refrigerant level!!! if you run that thing w/o r12 you'll lose the compressor!!!

Like suggested above. Go to your drier. It has two wires on it. Jumper both together and turn the a/c to ON. If the compressor runs then the frig level is low. That is a pressure sw that the two wires go to.

oh ok pressure switch. I found the main a/c relay and and it's controlled by ecu. it gives ground to engage the clutch. weird thing is ecu did not give a - but a positive current. But that could have something to do with that pressure switch.

r12? didn't they stopped using that for some time now. I don't even think anyone carries that gas anymore. Isn't R134A the stuff I should refill my ac system with? Ofcourse I would need to change oil in the compressor as well.

R-12A (I bought mine from ebay) is supposedly a direct replacement for good ol' R12. I just added a can to mine that had low R12, cold as ice for about $6.

r12 harms the ozone! Is it possible to switch to r134?

I think the R-12a is 'eco friendly'...plus it mixes with the R12 so you don't have to go through all that re-claiming crapola..

I did HAILERS and all it does is cuts the electric fan on. Does not turn on the compressor, which moves me along to the next stage. I have a favor to ask and if anyone can help It will make it alot easier for me. There is this wire coming from the ecu to the compressor relay. It should give a negative (ground) to turn on the relay, compressor. Instead I see a positive current. Can someone check on their ecu if the same wire has and positive current as well. My ecu might be screwed up. It's a blue wire with white stripe on the right ( widest) plug coming to the ecu. It's third from the right on the bottom.

Wish you lived by me. I'd help fix it. You can buy r-12 but only with a license. It's expensive though. Last time I purchased any it was $5.00 per ounce going rate. My uncle gave me a can fro free one time though. he had no need for it. You can evacuate the system and put 134 a in. I did that on my old caprice sevral years ago, but it didn't work as well. I ended up switching that system over because the compressor was roached. It sounds like your system was low. I'd recommend taking it in to check it out. If the freon is low then it had to leak somewhere. So, I'd find out if the system leaks when you have it checked out, otherwise you'll be wasting a lot of $

That's a myth. CFC's, which is what people are concerned with when using refrigerants, aerosol, etc, get absorbed by the earth and broken down by microbes. Ozone is actually broken down by extreme cold, which also explains why the hole in the ozone layer is right smack above the poles.

yes...

Check the FSM...there is a lead coming off the back of the logicon that should either be high on or low on. I checked mine when my clutch wasn't engaging and found that mine was wrong. Could indicate a bad switch in the logicon.
