Well that all depends on what kind of flywheel you want/need. If you would like to upgrade to a lighter flywheel, now is teh chance. Lightweight flywheels run pretty high, 400 i think from racing beat, but a stocker can be had from anyone parting out motors, I think Kevin Landers of www.rotaryresurrection.com has several flywheels for sale, though the shipping price of the 25lb unit would probably deter you from teh long way it has to go.

Well, you will most likely want to consult someone of greater knowledge but I recommend pulling the motor, purchasing/borrowing the proper sized socket for the flywheel nut, its somwhere between 52mm to 54mm, i cant remember. Its going to take either a really glong breaker bar or power tools to bust that nut loose, its tightened to at least 300ft/lbs of torque.

Depending on the year of your car I may have a stock flywheel that you could use. It is from an 88 N/A. If you want it, the price would be $50 which would include the shipping costs.

I do not think you need to pull the engine to change the flywheel especially if you have access to a good impact wrench and compressor. Pulling the engine is a pain in the rear unless there are other issues you need to address that would require engine removal I would say leave it in the car.

Just my $.02 though.

Its a 54 mm (2 1/8 inch) nut. I used the racing beat "super wrench" to get it off and had no problems. Its in the flywheel section of the racing beat site if your interested.

Happened to me, if you have acess to someone who is decent at welding you can weld the ring gear back on, mine had 3 ~4 inch long beads and lasted until i found a good deal on an aluminum flywheel quite a bit down the road.

Don't need to pull the motor.

Disconnect the transmission/bellhousing. Remove clutch and pressure plate.

The 2/18" nut will be staring you in the face. Get an impact gun and do it.

I posted a write up on Clutch and PP installation not too long ago, which tells, in detail, all the steps necessary to remove the transmission.

Good luck,
James
