finally installed my bridgeported 13bt in my t2 today. it runs but i have some problems. at any rpm there is very little throttle response and it constantly backfires. also it seems to be running very hot. i drove around my block and the exhaust housing of the turbo was glowing red.
car has stock injectors, I do have a fuel controller but this does not seem to be affecting the problem any.

 

Timing. Make sure you've got the CAS inserted correctly, and make sure your timing maps are good.

Why are you running stock injectors on a BP, and what turbo are you using?

 

everything is stock, turbo, injectors,ecu

i never planed on boosting this car till i got my larger turbo and etc. right now we are just trying to get the car running. This is my same motor that used to work fine, one moth ago. The only new items are, a full rebuild kit and bridge port.

about the timing, the only time i can get a decent reading is as its cranking, however all timing marks are lined up. even with the intial set conector jumped, the cars timing still jumps around.

 

sounds like a vaccum leak, or TPS not adjusted right....tell use what you have check and we'll go from there

 

Whoa. It's suspected that the stock map sensor is what's mostly responsible for timing control, and with a bridgeport, idle vacuum both decreases dramatically and becomes very irratic. This would cause very strange timing.

It sounds to me, however, like your timing is very advanced. Either your CAS isn't aligned correctly, or your spark plug leads are mixed up.

Its retarded timing that makes the exhaust glow, not advanced. The fuel burns later, so its still burning when it leaves the engine and goes into the exhaust.


And trust me, Stock ECU's do NOT like BP's...

 

yea that's wild.. stock ecu must be flipping **** trying to figure out what's going on.

 

i was thinking retarded, thus the flames and glowing, but agian, how can i get this thing to the proper timing?

 

timing light.. and I think you have to stick a pin in the green plug by the leading coil and ground it.

then just twist it so is it the red dot on the main pulley is lined up red is leading right? and yellow is the trailing?
