Brakes problem with 5 lugs conversion
Hi,
I have some trouble with my 5 lugs conversion. Rear calipers won't stop leak. I rebuilt rear calipers twice. They still leak. I bought old rear calipers, they still leak, WHY ?? So I think my problem is due to overall braking system.
I still have the 4 lugs master cylinder and brake booster, could that be the problem ?

Does NA have the same brake booster than TII ? The vaccuum source that goes to the brake booster only see vacuum on the NA and on a turbo car it see vacuum and boost.

Engine: 13B-RE (vacuum/boost source instead of just vacuum)

Master cylinder from a NA
Brakes leak just beside the spring for the handbrake, where there is a seal. It leaks on both rear side. Front calipers are fine. The my brake line are fine.

When you do the 5 lug conversion, you also need the brake booster since it's larger, the master cylinder since it is proportioned differently, and the hard lines for the front brakes since they are ever so slightly larger. If you have a leak somewhere, it will definitely be a problem. You do need to get those fixed. It doesn't matter if you have everything you need or not if you have leaks.

Ok thanks I will change the booster and the MC.
But the point that I want to bring, is that the rear calipers are leaking because there is something else that is wrong in my braking system. The calipers are fresh rebuilt. And the brake line are not leaking. I don't know, maybe there is exessive pressure and the calipers leak due to the 4 lugs booster and the 4 lugs MC, and the smaller brake lines in front.
But the point that I want to bring, is that the rear calipers are leaking because there is something else that is wrong in my braking system. The calipers are fresh rebuilt. And the brake line are not leaking. I don't know, maybe there is exessive pressure and the calipers leak due to the 4 lugs booster and the 4 lugs MC, and the smaller brake lines in front.

The rear calipers have been rebuilt twice by a professional shop. I also bought another set of rear calipers and the problem still there. So I have to be very unlucky to have 3 sets of calipers that are leaking at the same place. This is why I'm sure that the problem is elsewhere, but I don't fully understand how the MC and the brake booster are working so I have hard time to diagnostic the problem.

It leaks from the seal near the handbrake spring on the 3 sets of calipers on both side.

That is the most common spot for rear calipers to leak. Also, the e-brake cam systems do not like to sit un-used. If you bought 2 used ones, it is no surprise that they leaked. Buy your next set from a parts store that offers a life-time warrantee, so when they leak again, you can get new ones.
I don't see any way it could be related to the 4-lug parts in your system.
Are you following the procedure in FSM for caliper rebuild and instillation?

I don't know the rebuilt procedure I have not done it myself. I was just hopping that a specialized shop is doing the rebuild right especially after two times.
