Interesting, i have never heard of that happening only everynow and then. Usually when your brake pedal is hard to push, its the brake booster. But first, check the banjo bolt that comes off of the back of the lower intake manifold. Just trace your vaccum line going from the break booster to the LIM. Pull the bolt out and it will probably have a bunch of carben build up.

yeah make sure that your brake master cylinder is connected (via a 3/8ths i think air hose) to your intake manifold by the firewall. it definitely sounds like that could be the problem, however if it were disconnected you'd have one nasty vaccum leak and your car probably wouldnt idle... dunno, but check it out
