car stuck at gas station...won't start :(
car stuck at gas station...won't start :(
Heres the situation....
Earlier today I drove home from a friends house that lives very cloe by. The car wasn't running very long at all. I get home, unpack my computer, and go back out to leaveo nce again. This time, my car didn't start. It kept turning over like normal but it wouldn't start. I figured it was flooded since I heard thats pretty typical. I let it sit for a bit and eventually after quite a few tries it started and I was on my merry way. I wasn't too concerned since I figured it just flooded.
Well I not4iced I needed gas so about 10 minutes later i stopped and filled up my tank. This time it wouldn't start AGAIN! I waited and waited and it still didn't start. I read posts before about pulling the ECU fuse, cranking it, and then putting it back in and trying again but i wasn't sure which one was for the ECU (none of the fuses on the panel are marked "ECU."
I was also thinking about other times when my car didn't start right away it would make a higher pitched crank after a second and then id push the gas in all the way to turn the fuel pump (or whatever) off and it would start. This time the tone of the cranking was even...it didn't get any higher after a second like it normally does.
I can smell gas from the tailpipe so i assumed it was getting gas but now im not sure. When i turn the key on i don't hear a noise like the fuel pump kicking on like i used to in my crx. Then I i remembered i had a piece of wire with me that i use to check codes on my ecu...when i hooked it up (shorted that plug) i didn't get any flashes when normally i get the one for the o2 sensor and one for the pressure sensor. That was very fishy to me.
Tomorrow im going to make sure im getting a spark and that my plugs aren't TOO fowled up. Im also going to redo the ecu check with another wire and see if maybe mine was just bad...it was pretty dark.
Okay, sorry for the long write up but i figured id tell you guys all i know first. What do you think it is? Is it a gas issue? Too much? too little? spark issue? fuel pump? ecu? Wiring? Please help! Thanks!

i had the same issue with mine i went and turned off the car filled it up and went to start it back up and it wouldnt start so i pushed it into a parking space and kept trying to turn it over i tried it so much that my battery started to go dead so i got a guy to hook up jumper cables and it started but now after a while i came to the conclusion that i had the hot start issue so check your injectors they may be dirty and that could very well be your problem that is what im almost certain thats whats my problem
Your's is an S5 so first try holding the gas pedal to the floor and crank over in 10 - 15 second increments 3 - 4 times. That should unflood it and start. If that does not work (and battery strong) remove the EGI fuse from the fuse panel in the engine bay. It will be the first (top) one nearest the engine. Again crank over a few times with the gas pedal pressed to the floor. Replace the EGI fuse and turn it over but do not touch the gas pedal.
When you get back home return to this forum and do a search on flooding.

Unflood procedure fully written up ^^
Dunno if that's what'cha need, but hope it helps or such o.O

UPDATE:
The car sat overnight and then I tried the flooding techniques and it still didn't start. I don't think im gewtting spark though. Im also not 100% sure my computer is working. As I said before, its not giving me ANY codes and it normally shoots out codes for O2 and pressure sensor.
I took a plug out and tried to see if it was sparking on ground and i didn't see or hear anything. I used a test light to see if the harness connecting to the leading coil had power and it did. Is that little plug all the power that goes into the coil?????
Im gonig to search more on here and in the book...thanks for the help so far...please keep it coming. Is there something obvious i could have missed?

it may be flooded so badly that your plugs won't fire.
When you pulled the plug did it smell like gasoline? If it did, then you need to do this:
Even though the wire is trying to fire the plug does not mean the plug is firing. Get 4 new plugs 2 leading, 2 trailing. (BUR7EQ, BUR9EQ, they are NGK spark plugs, don't use autolite!). Pull the old spark plugs out and pull the EGI fuse. Then crank the car with the gas pedal to the floor. Your spark plugs are still out at this point.
Keep your hood open when you do this. Keep cranking the car in 10-15 second intervals until no more gasoline vapor comes out of the engine bay. Install the new plugs and it should fire up.
If the plug didn't smell like gasoline then you've got other problems...
Good luck

don't know if anyone mentioned this.. i was just to bored and tired to read everything..
(usually when mine floods that bad.. means A i need new plugs)
best way to unflood it..
(b4 you do this you might wanna get a new set of plugs if you can get them right away then i suggest brining a wire brush to clean the ones you got)
(WARNING: IF YOU HAVE TO CLEAN THE PLUGS GET THEM AS CLOSE TO NEW AS POSSIBLE YOU DON'T WANNA SPEND ALL THIS TIME TRYING TO UNFLOOD YOUR CAR AND CAUSE IT NOT TO START CAUSE YOU SLACKED OFF)
pull the first 2 fuses going from inside out on the engine bay fuse box, pull all 4 plugs..
having someone with you will help at this point..
crank the engine over for 5 seconds at a time (anylonger then that and the fuel stops coming out of the holes.. i guess just gets cause on the rotor face..)
do this till there's no more fuel coming out of the whole within the first 2 seconds of cranking over, put your new/clean plugs back in.. put the fuses back in and try starting her..
