brake problem need info
i've got a 88 turbo 2 with abs. i don't know what in the world is wrong with this damn car if i drive around for maybe ten minutes my wheels want to lock up and when i let go of the gas instead of it rolling it comes to a dead stop.then its a pain to get it moving i have to boost the car to 10 pounds just to get into the driveway and when i look at the calipers they all are smoking.but if i let the car sit for a little while it rolls on its own again no i've searched and have replaced the check valve and i also heard that a bad abs unit will cause this that's why mazdatrix sells the abs delete kit.my abs doesn't come on at all the light is on.but my brother was wondering if it was the brake proportion valve any info would help i need this car to run again i just dumped money into it and then this happens
Most use the ABS delete kit just to clean up the engine bay, or because of an ABS component failure that is very costly.
I would not think this a ABS problem as the pump has separate valves for all 4 wheels. Usually it's contaminated calipers that cause the piston(s) to stick and hold the pads against the rotors, or sticking guide pins. At times the flexible rubber brake lines will break internally not allowing the fluid to return to the MC quickly. This is why over time the fluid will bleed back and make the car driveable once again. This again does not happen to all 4 wheels at one time though.
As you have replaced the check valve, next time it happens, pull the vacuum hose off the brake booster just to be certain and see what happens. Clogged master cylinder return port possibly, and the only other part that comes to mind would be the rod adjustment from the pedal to the MC, but if untouched, it's not going to change, so make certain there is pedal play.

My best guess.

This sounds like the Check valve in the line is not present from the Booster to the Vacuum source. You may be able to get Brakes, but the darn thing still sees vacuum and continues to allow the booster to put the brakes on..MY guess,BAD check valve.
