You'll get a code, for sure...But that thing throws codes all day in my car & she's still good...The FSM & Haynes manuals have procedures to check it, but what I do is put a meter lead on the ECU plug (don't have the schematics with me now, it's on page 4A-32 or so in the FSM), and drive around & watch it. It jumps all over the place, from about .5v to 3.5v, IIRC...You can also hook up a meter at the boost sensor itself & suck on the hose & watch the numbers, then check for the 12v & 5v at the proper pins/wires..See FSM/ Haynes...

An orifice, you mean? Basically a piece of plastic with a with a hole through the center that delays the air change that the boost sensor gets.

To the best of my knowledge it deals with acceleration and gasoline mileage. My boost sensor was bad and I did not have idling problems. However, acceleration felt very jerky until I replaced it.
