Boost levels affected..?

So if I guy my pre-cats, will my boost increase to where the boost cutoff is and leave me w/o boost or something?
How about if I get my cat gutted/taken out?

I don't really wanna spend $90 on the anti-boost cutoff chip or whatever.

Any other poor-man mods that can help?

If you get rid of both cats, you'll definitely go over the stock boost limit. When you go over the stock boost limit, fuel is cut off to the rear rotor. You shouldn't do this very often as the housing will be damaged. You also may run lean on the stock fuel pump and system.

...If you go ahead and do it anyway, it'll be fun before you destroy it.

Any way to disable the fuel cutoff by hand? Jump two wires somewhere?
$90 sounds like a lot for something that stupidly simple

it will raise boost

I had a clogged pre cat and was only able to boost 4psi, I put a down pipe on and a racing pipe for the main cat and now boost at 8psi with my boost controller off, thank god for the fuel cut defenser.

Hmm, my boost only goes halfway across the stock boost guage
How many PSI is that? It's in SI, and I'm too lazy to convert

if it is the stock guage....

than that is about 200mmhg which is approx 4psi. Anybody correct me if I'm wrong, but I just asked that question last weekend and I was told to get a real guage, which I was awaiting arrival.

My real question: how do I get around the boost cutoff without spending $90?

Wink

There is a guy who makes 'em on the net. He is at turbo78mc@aol.com. He gets $35 for 'em, shipped I think. You have to wire them though.

Also, you can make your own! See the article "make your own FCD" on TeamFC3S.org, member gallery.

Peace!

Yep, Paul's how-to is very precise and helpful. You get the diagram and the parts numbers. Only thing you have to do is to make the circuit and wire it up... You should install this in the passenger compartment near the ECU though, because it absolutely DOESNT like the temperatures near the turbo (if you install it right next to the pressure sensor)...Total cost: 2$

You might not hit fuel cutoff, I think its what 8.7 psi on a 87-88? If you still have the stock exhuast and gut the pre & main cat it will yes increase boost but maybe not enough, do it and see. If you do hit cutoff, once won't hurt, just don't keep doing it. Good luck!
