Boost gauge

My boost gauge shows about 20 lbs of vaccuum. Even if I rev the engine up to 3000 - 3500, the gauge stays at about -20 lbs.

Does the engine have to be under load for the boost gauge the show boost?

I've changed the boost sensor and the OEM boost gauge

You have to be under boost for the car to show boost. Normally, if you are at WOT from 800rpm, you should be around full boost at 4000rpm depending on your turbine and set-up.

20 lbs of vacuum is about right for idle. The car does not boost sitting still, you have to be moving.

Um, this should probably be in new member technical.

If you're not really getting on the throttle, and you're just crusing at 3000 RPMs, it IS normal to be in vacuum. If you think there's a problem with the boost gauge, try going WOT and see what it reads out.

Last fall when I had it on the road, the boost gauge didn't show any boost. So, I changed the boost sensor. Still didn't show boost, so I just changed the instrument cluster. I haven't had a chance to try it on the road yet. My 7 is still covered up in the garage .

Is it electronic? Some gauges will stay at a certain spot if not properly installed.

Dang, too bad Mazda never made a service manual which explains how to troubleshoot the boost gauge. However, if they did, it would probably also tell you what that strange "x10mmHg" writing means. Oh well, I guess you are just hosed.
