Boost???

I am a (proud) new owner of a stock 88 TII and I was wondering what kind of boost I should be seeing in different gears? If the car is standing still and I rev it up, I don't see any boost. I see very little in 1st. From 2nd on the boost kicks in real nice. Does this sound right?

Thanks!!!

Stock boost is about 5.5 PSI. You likely won't see much boost in 1st gear with the stock intake and exhaust.

I just installed a Boost gauge and have been looking for a thread like this.

what about with a wider TID, FCD and no CATs?
At what point should the gauge read 0+ psi?

I am asking because I can hear my turbo, but the gauge still states 10 hhg(or whatever) of vac. Max boost is around 6-7psi.

There are a couple areas that my boost gauge hose might be pinched, but I need to know what to expect to get it right.

In general you'll have issues making large amounts of boost in 1st gear. The load on the engine just isn't enough and you don't stay in 1st long enough.

I understand 1st gear, but my main question is:

At what point should my gauge read a positive psi?
and
what is the max boost I can expect with mods like mine?

"...wider TID, FCD and no CATs?"

If 5.5 psi is normal for a stock TII, than why am I pushing 8 pounds with only an exhaust? Yeah, I understand that an aftermarket exhaust allows for better flow, but that is a dramatic difference.

DO you have CATs? Without cats your exhaust is wide open, allowing MUCH better flow.

What is "an exhaust?"

A full exhaust with no cats (downpipe->midpipe->catback type situation) should yield 2-4 more PSI on the stock turbo.

EDIT: clarify that for me if you could, Aaron.

I expect to see close to 10psi with my mods, but the gauge only reads about 6 or 7. I think I need to check my hose for pinches.

BTW CrassFC4s, hows things in SA town? I moved from there to AZ about 4yrs ago.

Sorry, I didn't specify on my exhaust. I don't know what kind of down pipe i have but I am running one cat with a Pacesetter cat back single to dual outlet.
