Blue smoke - turbo vs. oil ring and crankcase vent
My car decided to start spewing blue smoke out the back tonight, so now the work begins.
Anyway to tell if it's the turbo or the oil control ring(s)? Also, could my PCV system be causing this? I have the top nipple on the filler neck capped, and the lower one vented to open air via small filter. I would think that this would be good enough, but maybe it's not. You tell me.
I'm kind of hoping it's the control rings actually, so it gives me an excuse to keep the car and rebuild it.

Yeah I defiantly had that going on.
I forgot to add that it came and went throughout the night.
I went to the mall, it was fine. From the mall I went to a pizza joint, where I first noticed it - it was the worst at this point. After eating for about an hour or so, went out, started it up and no smoke. We came back here, and when I got out, there was very little smoke. About 45 minutes later I took my girlfriend home (5 mile drive), and when we got there, there was no smoke at all. Came back here, and it was back to smoking again.
With it varying like this, it leads me to think that capping my upper PCV vent off was a bad idea. I am going to try uncapping it and seeing what happens tomorrow.

Yeah, try dissconnecting it and see what happens. You might want to look inside the intake too.
My car runs a MAP sensor, so I ran the car without the turbo to see if my engine was smoking. My car was smoking from the turbo, but u couild not tell from jsut taking off the downpipe. I didnt know untill the turbo was taken apart, there was lots of oil behind the plate on the exhaust side.
WOrse comes to worse, u might want to try taking off your manifold and turbo to figure this one out
