If you are not performing any intense g rated turns any battery that has a high cca is good enough, anything else is a waste of money.
Also, saving 20 pounds from a battery is useless on a daily driver unless you really want that small performance from the weight loss.

If you buy the Odyssey PC680MJT, it comes with SAE terminals and is pretty much a plug and play affair.
If you have a sound system, optima red top. If you just have a stock car, mazda oem battery. I would only put in an optima if you need it, because they're very expensive.
I had an optima yellow top that had been sitting for probably around 3 or 4 years, and I just charged it up a few times and it's back up to full strength.
I find that pretty ridiculous, Optima has my money any day.

I heard the older Optimas were good but recently they've become very poor quality.
I've been running on brand X sucko battery for a while. So if someone could tell me how much the battery brand matters that'd be great info.

Thats what I have been hearing as well, the optimas bought a few years ago are much higher quality than what is currently produced. I don't have any real proof of that either though.
The DEKA was cheap and it's a champ.

Napa Gold was highly rated by consumer reports. I got one a few years ago. It performed well when my alternator took a dump and has survived some fair amount of abuse.

The quality of Optima Batteries took a nose dive after they were sold to Johnson Controls about 6 years ago. Now they are producing them cheaply to be sold at every discount store they pretty much suck.
While I don't doubt it regained some capacity, coming up to full capacity is simply not physically possible. Storing ANY lead acid battery in a discharged state sulphates the battery, something that cannot be reversed. If you had done a capacity test when the battery was new, and then again after it sat and was recharged, you would have found that after sitting the battery had greatly reduced capacity.
