Bastardized my S4 tails..PICS!

taking apart S4 tails
So after reading Eric's old post re taking out the diffuser parts on his S5 tails, (looks awesome BTW), I decided to see what lie's underneath the S4 tails. I read about one person smashing his S4's w/ a sledge due to frustration, but that was not very informative. So: 10 screws / take out all the bulb/light wiring- 4 bulbs and wire holders that you twist to undo and your'e done / remove the factory glue- I used a previous post's time and temp in the oven to soften - 275 for 7 minutes - I did 8 per the instructions, and they got a little too overdone. But the light was seperated in less than 30 seconds after that. And so all S4 owners now know (for sure), a seperate clear diffuser does not exist. It is one long solid piece for the red top and one long solid piece for the bottom orange/white section - (2 total) And unless you plan on breaking out the lenses to replace them w/ whatever, you will not get them out. They look like they are almost fused to the foundation they are mounted on. I didn't try the oven trick again as I need to try to save this tail until I can get a new one. I'm going to try something a little different. I'm going to spray the part that houses the bulbs a gloss black and leave the lenses as they are. Black in back, stock color up front. Should be interesting. Besides, if it doesn't work, all I have to do is spray the bulb housing back to the original silver or try the VHT paint on the inside of the light housing.
Since this thread is a little old, if you want me to post pic's of how the black turns out, or what the inside of the S4 tail looks like, let me know and I'll get some shots put together.
