Door Dingers should be shot!! (Rant)

Yo,

Sorry, just gotta rant for a second:

I hate f*ckin' door dingin' bastards!!

I've had my Scirocco since 1987, and always park out in the boondocks because I've got no rub strips. Someone throws their door against my car, and it's dinged down to the metal.

So today it's raining, and I've got some shopping to do. I park in these severely slanted parking slots, with a handicapped spot to my right. Usually I'd park off in the boonies, but it's raining and these slots are at wicked angles so there is little or no possibility of getting dinged.

Wrong.

2 dings, about 3" from the END of my car. Down to the metal. Open the door *bang*. Oops, better do it AGAIN about a half inch forward of the first ding.

Bastards. The ONE f*cking time I don't park in a paranoid, out of the way place in YEARS I get two dings. So who's paranoid? This is bullsh*t. I guess I needed to be reminded that paranoia pays, and park off in the weeds. F*ck.

I hate "dingers" also. Who doesn't?

A few years ago, I remember reading in a car amgazine how to get revenge on these people.

My favorite: stick toothpicks in the door lock and then break them off.

Of course, you have to be a Sherlock Holmes first and match up the ding with the door edge to make sure that the driver of the car next to you is the perpetrator.

I know what you mean. Before I had my RX-7 I had a 94 Probe GT. It was bright red. An absolutely gorgouse car. One day at work I parked in the regular lot because of construction going on in the employee lot. Well I get out and there is a huge as dent in my door. The person that did it left their white paint on my car. I was pissed as hell. Infact I still am. I WISH I knew who did it.

That shi* pisses me off too! You should see my passenger side door from when I used to work at the local mall (the drivers side has been repaired since I was backed into and again since I was broken into). It is covered in dings. Sad as it is to say, a lot of them are caused by careless girlfriends getting out of the car. My ex (although I love her to death) used to **** me off by carelessly opening my door. She almost smashed it into someone elses car, so from then on, I let her out each and every time to spare my wallet and that of the person I parked next to. And yes, I always let her in the car too.

Sorry about the car, but it could have been worse. . .At least someone didn't pry out your lock(s) and rummage through and steal everything of value. You are lucky.

Yo,

Yeah, it's not earth shattering, but still it's like you carry an umbrella EVERY day you go out, and the ONE day you don't carry it, you get poured on.

I'm more pissed that I didn't follow my usual parking ritual, and I paid for it. It boggles my mind the way the Universe works sometimes.

You park out in the boonies because you have a possible irrational fear of getting your car dinged. You do this for years. Wow, am I just being paranoid? All people CAN'T be that disrespectful to other people's cars, can they? C'mon, surely parking ONCE in a close spot to the store won't kill you...

Yea I always park in the back of the lot now no matter where I go in my FC. I don't care if it's raining or snowy/icy I do it.

that sux man...

you know whats funny though...when i went to japan this past summer everyone was SO CAREFUL about how they parked. and the parking spots are SMALLER than the ones here. you'll see some old lady back in next to an R34 Skyline GT-R VSPECII and make DAMN SURE she opens her door with ease, squeeze out, and close it without touching the other car. and then fold in her mirrors to make sure something doesn't happen to her car.

it was AMAZING! a total 180 from the way it is here. they have more respect for others...

That **** pisses me off too. I always park in BFE to avoid it...rain or shine.

This stupid bitch pulled into the parking lot at my office a while back in a new vw beetle (notice that this car deserves no capitalization.....gay-*** things) and she flung her door open HARD right into this lady I work with's mini-van. She bent over (big fat ***.....don't even know how the bootie fit into that tiny car) and looked at it, like she knew she did it, and walked on into the building. I knew she didn't work in the building so I figured she would be back out soon. I went up and found the lady who owned the van and told her about it. She went down and waited for the plumper to return to her bug and busted her on it. They were out there arguing and I went over there and told the bug girl that I had witnessed it so she better not deny it. It was a big dent and my co-worker ended up getting it fixed at her insurance company's expense.

I got a kick out of that whole scene. I wish I could bust eveybody that does that.

People just have no respect for other people's cars....

yeah people suck. I always check carefully not to hit anyone's car, and I even got the little rubber things to put on the door edge (not the whole way, just abour 4 inches right on the "apex" of the door)

I hate that ****.Several months ago my drivers sde fender was hit with a door so hard that it dented it from the fender well to the edge where the fender starts to slope up to the hood.Chipped the paint and everything.I got kinda sick feeling then I got pissed.I didn't notice it until the next day so I had no clue as to who did it.I won't even park in a parking spot now if I think the other cars are too close to the line and I try to take a mental note of the cars beside me.Man door dingers **** me off.

My sad story contribution

Most recent - Had every dent taken out of my Vert and completely repainted 1st class. One month later, I took my wife out for out anniversary, parked way away from any other car, came out and found a monster ding on my front fender. It's scheduled to be removed and redone next week. :-( But, my T2 Hood is being painted at the same time. :-)

But, that not my worst experience. About 7 years ago picked up my beloved '79 Lmt after IT had been completely redone. On the way back from the body shop, I stopped to buy some gas. Two cars at the pump, one behind them (#3), and me (#4). The second car finished first, so #3 decided he would be nice enough to back up so #2 could manouver out. You guessed it, he backed up without looking and crunched my front end before I could honk my horn. My wife looked over at me and said "If I hadn't been here, I never would have believed you". Fortunately, he crunched a fiberglass airdam and the body shop had paint left over. So, new airdam---new paint and a check from his insurance company. So, at least this one had a happy ending.

Bottom line, only way to keep you car clean it seems is keep it locked in the garage.

Don't even get me started on those damn door dingers. I hate walking out to my car when the angle and lighting are just right and I'm greeted with a passenger door that looks like cottage cheese. It almost brings a tear to my eye. If I ever see it happen..............

i ran out to my car one day at school to get something, and i noticed a old teal mercedes parked VERY close to my passenger side. i didn't have time to inspect it, but during the rest of school i thought to myself "i bet that guy hit my door...theres no way he could have gotten out without doing so." luckily for me (i guess), the ugly colored car was still there when classes were over and i inspected the area. sure enough, there was a big ol scratch where his door opened and there was the unmistakeable teal paint color in the scratch. now i have a shiny mercedes emblem in my drawer

And a classic quote to go with it
"You scratch my car, and I'm gonna scratch your ***" - Eddie Murphy
anyone good enough to know which movie that came from? One of my favorites.

Yeah....all this almost reminds me of how angry I was when I came out of school a few years back and found a 4 inch KEY MARK on the driver's side rear fender on my nicely cleaned FC. If THAT isn't intentional and stupid, then I don't know what is.
