Well here is an update. Marina Mazda in Santa Cruz pisses me off. They are stupid people that can't read and understand. I have been dealing with MM Santa Cruz since I started this thread last month. Still no luck, they talked to their district manager, now he has to talk to someone.... BS. I called another dealer in San Jose yesterday and they said come in, we'll look at it and no problem. I went up there today and what great people, they understood what "for the life of the vehicle meant." They are ordering parts as I type this and I will be going in on Wed. to get it fixed. Sweet. Don't give up if your trying to get yours fixed, it will happen.

Wow, thank god I have a vert and that they don't have that retractable seatbelt ****. It is so hard to believe that dealerships will dick around like that over a SAFETY RECALL! Seriously, if I had that happen to me I'd think about finding a way to crash my car without too much bodily harm(and at no personal fault) and then sueing them into the ground!

I sent a message (via Mazda North website) regarding this matter and a rep replied telling me that it should be replaced regardless if it has been serviced in the past.

The reason it is a life time warrent because it will keep breaking.

I just had a hell of a time getting my car scheduled for repair on the recall.
My local dealership said the campaign was closed,.. I let them read the recall & then asked them, "What does extended for the life of the vehicle mean?" the shrugged & raised their hands as if to say I don't know,.. but they didn't actually say anything..

I Called Mazda the first time & they said it was closed,..Same as the dealership. WTF??
I read him the recall & everything..

So, I Immediately called Mazda Again & was finally able to get someone who knew what the hell I was talking about.
Dude's name was Johnny,.. I should have got his extension #.
He called the dealer & they're ordering the parts now.

damn, i've been using my auto seat belt manualy for a year, went to the dealership once, and they gave me bullshit, and too lazy to do it again. Anyway, did you guys have to wait a longass time for them to fix it? I don't feel safe leavin my car to them, while their pissed off, seeing that i would have to complain to them about it.

They order the parts & then schedule an appointment, it should only be there one day.
If it takes an unreasonable amount of time, or if they break any of your trim, call mazda.

Luckily for me, my good friend, A fellow RX-7 owner & Forum member here, is the top Mazda Tech at the dealership, & so he'll be the one working on my car.

Incase anyone is in central NY and needs their belts done. head to Corey Northgate Ford/Mazda in Binghamton, NY. I cant believe how painless it was to get them to replace the belts. no arguing, no need to show the recall letter, ordered the parts on a monday and was installed on a friday. works great now!

I need to get this done myself but it appears the previous owner of my car, or well one of the previous owern's tried to fix them themselves and hosed the **** up. The complete driver's side A-pillar trim is gone, including the plastic pieces that snap the belt into place on the top. The passenger side is a little better...at least it snaps into place.

:-(

^^ I actually cut the little wire inside when mine broke so I could position the seatbelt by my shoulder so it shouldn't be a problem for them to fix it. When I took my car in after they ordered parts it took 2hrs. They couldn't believe the other dealer wouldn't do it too.

to answer your question about other choices, you can get racing seats with belts in them. or do what someone mentioned above with a rollcage, 3point harness. but id make them replace it, and id sue too for this, since its a saftey issue. Im sure a lawyer can get more indepth about it but you could have some money rolling in. you probally have a 20b swap with your name on it.

i had this same exact problem except the dealer just said "they wore out, they didnt break so we're not responsible for fixing it" which i new was bull so i called mazda and they said i can get it fixed or whatever so i went to a different dealer and they were more than happy to order the parts for me. im supposed to go back in a couple days to get it fixed and they're also gonna turn in a report to mazda n.a. on the other dealer about how they refused to do the recall repairs.

o but just so y'all no, they dealership told me that they wont cover it if any of the interior plastics get broken during the repair because of the age of the vehicle they said the plastics are brittle so theres no guarantee they wont get broken. thats the only thing that pissed me off but i figure if they break it ill just call mazda n.a. again and see what i can have done. ive got about 2-3 more sets of the plastics that they're gonna b removing so in my case it wouldnt be the end of the world if it gets broken but i figured id tell all of u just so u no and also to see if nebody else thinks they could get away with that
