Auto seatbelt broke, options?
Well about two days ago my auto seatbelt on the driver side stopped working. It will retract half way back and the little guide wire has popped out... Anyway last night I was driving and a guy slowed down to a stop to take a turn. I looked away for a second and didn't see him slowing and hit him at about 30. Smashed my left front side of the bumper, but everyone was ok and my car is still drivable. But my seatbelt completely broke when I hit the guy and now it is completely worthless. I went to a local dealer yesterday before the accident and he said the stopped doing recall work on RX7's in 1997 so what are my options for a seatbelt? Thanks.

the dealer was wrong! bitch slap the person you talked to and call a mazda rep! the recall is and always will be in effect.... its a safety hazard! i got mine replaced 3 years ago...and counless people on this site are still getting it done! the recall is still good......there have been quite a few people saying that certain dealerships were assbags, but the next mazda dealer was more than happy to do it! the dealers that claim the recall is over, are just lazy pricks that dont wanna take the time to handle something that they dont get money for...although they are supposed to
|
Yeah go back in, if they are a true mazda dealership then Mazda will get on their ass for not replacing it.
|
Ok thanks guys I felt like he was BSing me when I went in there.

Contact Mazda North America Operations - they have a 1-800 number.
You can hit the Mazda U.S.A. website, and it lists this number. Explain your predictament and the location of the dealer. $5 says the dealer will be calling you to apologize... -Ted |

maybe the rx7 was already serviced once in 97, thats why?
Your only option is roll bar and some 4 point harnessses :D |
Its a saftey recall....the seatbelts have a lifetime warrenty.

I just had my auto belts replaced under the recall 2 months ago...Safety recalls are always for the life of the car!!! Get the info from the recall and have a lawyer contact them, that will get the ball rolling...The reason they are trying to get out of it, is because the cost per side is $1600+ and they charge that to the parts department...
Anyways, the point is they HAVE TO fix it... |
Ok I went back today and talked to a different guy at the dealership and he said it has already been done. In fact it looks like it has been done twice; once in 1997 and once in 2000. He then said that I would have to talk to Mazda North American and if they ok'd it then they would do the work. So I have to wait until Monday.

has anybody had any luck getting these replaced with a theft recovery car? I asked the dealer and they said that I couldnt get the belts replaced since the car was stolen once.
|
I never had issues with my dealership. I had three 2nd gen and took them all to get the seatbelts fixed with no complaints.
|
You have to call Mazda? Sounds like that is their job.
James |
ok i just went to the nhtsa site and had no luck finding anymore recall infos.....where can i find out what else was recalled for the FC?...
also..if the dealer performed the recall and the part later breaks again....are they still liable to perform another replacement? |
The recall notice clearly says life of the car.

Well I talked to Mazda North American today and he told me what the dealer did. They say it was "closed" in 2000. Meaning it had already been done and I am now screwed. Thanks for the help though guys.
P.S. What are some options for a seatbelt that I can do immedietly, I am driving with it just slung over my shoulder. |
Dude, that is TOTAL BS. It is warrentied for the life of the car. I would call Mazda again until you get somebody that agrees with you.
James Edit - If you had an accident and got hurt because of the seatbelt not working right. And you had documation to prove that Mazda NA said shove off....you could sue their ass into the ground. Tell them that....I am sure it would come around in your favor. |
DEALERS WILL REPLACE INOPERATIVE SHOULDER BELTS. MAZDA HAS EXTENDED THE WARRANTY COVERAGE ON THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER AUTOMATIC SHOULDER BELT RAIL AND MOTOR FOR THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. |
Ok, I took my car in a couple of months ago, like in October. When I went in the first time, they pulled up the history and the recall has been done twice, once in 1997 and once in 1999. They set up an appt for me and fixed the car a THIRD time and didn't charge me anything. Your just having bad luck with lazy people, keep trying.
|
Jeeze, simply print the dang letter, bring it to the dealer and tell them they are now liable for any personal injury until it is fixed. Its that simple.
|
I wish it was that simple. I called Mazda NA back today and got a person to read and understand what was there. He then put me on 3 way calling with the dealer and the dealer said he has to ok it with his district manager or some crap, he says now he see's no foreseeable problems. It was the same guy that said I should go buy a 4 point harness or go down the road to ......... Looks pretty good now. Thanks again guys.
|
Glad you got this straigtened out. Because at some point our stuff is going to break and we will have to go thru what you went thru.
Thanks! James |
yeah, i tried to get my seatbelt fixed this week but it looks like im goint to have to wait. called up the dealer and for some odd reason he wasnt formilar with the procedure. WTF? i told him it was warrantied for life because it was a safety hazard. he then asked me if i could bring it down so he can check it out. i asked if there was a fee for the checkup and he said yeah. hahahahahaha aint it suppose to be free? i told him to call mazda and call me back.
CANT HUSTLE A HUSTlA |
My brain hurts after reading that...hustla - no ones used that word since 1812! lol j/k
