I did the ATF trick in my car. It has 95K miles on it. It's an 87 na.

I squirted three squirts into the leading plug hole and bumped the starter once. Three more squirts, one starter bump.... etc. I repeated that process for about 15 minutes!! I used up a half-quart of ATF. Could have used more but I didn't have any help.

I let it sit for about 32 hours and then started it up. I brouht it to redline in 2nd gear only (don't want any tickets on the highway) about 12 times. Redline, back to 4500, redline, back to 4500 etc.... 12 times.

It didn't seem to help... Does that mean my engine is in good shape or bad shape? Could the Carbon build up be so severe that I need to repeat the process? Or is the Carbon build-up so scant that I don't need to worry about it? I did notice the engine seemed to spin a little faster when starting the motor. What's that all about?

By the way.... when I started it my smokecloud floated across the street and smoked a runner... I could hear him coughing.... I had to keep from laughing too hard b/c I woke up with a headache (can I get a hell yah?!).

I did change the spark plugs and they didn't seem to help. I don't have a cat, I'm running an RB pre-silencer. Need to know everything's alright with P and J!!

 

The ATF trick does indeed work. Perhaps your car didn't need it.

 

From what I understand you need to bump the engine every hour/couple hours to be realy effective
