I would like to see it as well. The rebuild video doens't touch too much on install. After the rebuild video got to the end I was kinda lost and felt like I had been shoved off in a boat w/o a paddle

not after reading this thred im a little worried.. the RA seals are gonna gouge up my rotor housings like in thouse pics??? i hope not

 

I talked with RotorSportRacing who is teamed with Rotary Aviation and they have used these RA Seals for years and done many a customers cars with these RA Seals...cars ranging from stock to 900hp Race Cars. I asked them about the issues RA Seals seem to be causing and it seems that installation is the main cause of this scoring or things were not properly lubricated before the engines were reassembled. They said they have not had any issues with these seals or springs at all. They use only RA stuff in their own personal cars...1st,2nd, and 3rd gens. I think I am going to go with the BASIC Overhaul kit from Rotary Aviation and reuse my stock Side Seals. Do the side seals see much wear? My engine had about 40,000 miles on it when it experienced detonation and popped.

 

haha yea keep talking... making up more ****. I lubed the crap out of my engine when I built it. It took a while for the smoke to stop cuz I had so much lube in there.

 

Im only stating what I was told...by Rotorsports as well as what Rotary Aviation themselves have stated. No one is forcing you to use RA Seals and if you dont want to use them....THEN DONT.

NOW ANYONE DO THE SIDE SEALS GET ALOT OF WEAR? I WILL REPLACE THE SIDE SEAL SPRINGS...BUT I WANTED TO KNOW IF THE SIDE SEALS ARE A PART OF THE ENGINE THAT RECEIVES ALOT OF WEAR.

Ok come on guys, calm down and just be civil about things.

 

Compression ignition is not the same as detonation.

 

Nope side seals almost never need replacing unless the clearance isnt right or they are broken. Main thing with side seals is clearance between them and the corner seal. Try to get .003", that usually works good.

BTW, I Know no one is forcing me to use them, just letting you guys know what I learned from my expierence. You wanted to know what apex seals to use, and im just telling you I didnt have a good expierence with my RA seals. I'm just sick of ppl throwing out BS reasons to why my housings went bad. Honestly I think maybe because I got them when they first came out the seals werent made the same as they are now. Plus im not the only one that resulted in bad housings after use of RA seals, so that should tell you something.

 

i used it as an example of the difference, it is the same principle.

 

Alright guys....my engine has about 39,000 miles on it when detonation occured and it popped. I will have the engine out this weekend and begin to tear it down. I really hope that the rear housing is usable but i know the rear rotor will be wrecked. HERES MY QUESTION...I was going to buy a BASIC OVERHAUL KIT from RA which inlcudes all seals and everything except for corner seals, oil pump chain, and side seals. Now with this low mileage on my engine is it necessary to buy this complete kit...or should I just get a new gasket kit and a complete O-Ring Kit (cuz I know I will at least need this). I am just trying to save money cuz this time I will definitely be investing in at least some 750cc Secondaries. Any help would be greatly appreciated guys. Thanks

I just wanted to know if what seals and springs last longer than the others. I know apex seals and springs must be replaced...as well as the O-rings...but what else receives alot of wear?

rotor housings and side housings actually recieve the most wear of any of the internals.

 

Net Seven, if you detonated your engine and the damage to the rotor housing is only on one rotor, then did you just detonate one rotor? and is it the rotor that detonated that has the prematurely worn out rotor housing. you never posted the pics of the good housing or talked abotu it on this forum. i think you are being a littel unfair toward this situation.

now think about it this way...if the rotor that used the RA seals has been detonated and caused the housing to wear making it unusable, having mazda seals that would have broken in that same rotor housing by detonating, and then crashing the broken apex seals bits into the housing suraface also making it unusable. isnt that the same thing? which one would you prefer? (this is just an observation from what you have told us)

Here is why I think one rotor housing was bad and other one not so bad. A post on nopistons "The early seals had an issue with the surface grinding overheating the seal in localized spots before they switched to wet surface grinding."

 

I orginally used 3mm RA seals and had to remove them because they would not work with my housings. Landers changed them out with some mazda racing 3mm and we were working from then on. Talk to Kevin Landers if you want his opinion on using RA seals on used housings. RA says on their website only to use them on new housings.

 

I didnt know that...now I am worried agian. Everytime I make my mind up about a certian Apex Seal I here something negative about it....LOL. I just want to make the right decision. Thanks
