Anyone with a rear strut-tower bar?

How has it improved handling? Is it high enough to mount a camcorder onto so that it'll be able to see the road? Which one is the best to get and from where?

Answer my questions fools!

Well, I've been auto-xing my car and I'll be doing a few driving schools this upcoming spring and summer. What I also wanted to do with it is to mount a camera in it to videotape my auto-x runs and driving schools to figure out where I'm making my mistakes and for fun. A bunch of guys in the Cincy RX-7 club have cameras in their 3rd Gens and I wanted to do the same...

I was going to buy the bar anyways, but if I can videotape my shitty *** driving...all the better.

I have the Mazdaspeed rear brace and it's crossbar is not too much lower than the speakers - I think it would be a good mount.
It also looks really cool thru the glass (polished aluminum) when I walk up to the car - it's quite visible and I have no doubt as to it's functionality. I think Cusco makes one as well.

As a side note: I've seen good pics of the Cusco front strut brace and the pieces look identical to the Mazdaspeed (leading me to think Cusco might be subcontracted to make them for MS) except that the Cusco tower-mount rings are blue-anodized. On the MS product they are gold-anodized.

I've got to get a scanner... Seriously though, it does look real nice. I like to think of anyone walking by the car noticing the 18's, Toyo's and rear brace. Just looks serious as hell. I like my car!

I have the Cusco in my '89 T2. It works very well tightening the body up. It seems like it would be about a foot too low to mount a camera on for autoX footage. The Autopower cage would work well as a mount and to help stiffen your car even more (not to mention it's better insurance than Met Life)

I solved this problem with a 6-point roll cage. The cage mounts to the shock towers, and the camera mounts in the center of the crossbar.

Ummm, NASCAR called and they want their rollcage back. Damn, that's better insurance than Progressive in case of accident.

Hey Evil Aviator, you probably get this alot, but is that bar custom or was it pre cut. Then welded in as a kit.... I found a nice 8 point bar, i really like the way yours mounts in the rear, with its own cross bar, and autopower isnt legal since their cross bar in the main hoop isnt one piece.... So i was lookin for more options... Thanks...

When you plan on going as fast as they plan on going, that kind of protection is of the utmost necessity.

Has the Wolf arrived yet? You huys have to be itching to finish that thing.

EDIT - I actually have an 8-point cage. Sorry, I forgot about the two forward bars.

Hehehe, I guess you wouldn't be surprised to know that the guy who made it was a NASCAR safety inspector.

It was custom made by Creative Motorsports, which specializes in movie stunt cars. You may want to check pricing before you build a cage yourself, as mine was only a few hundred dollars more than the kits that I was looking at. I hear that the guy who made my cage will be opening up his own shop soon somewhere near Tampa.

Who said anything about going fast? That cage was designed for US 19!

The 4.0 has been delayed another week by Wolf AUS, but the intake elbow arrived in the US a couple of days ago. Still no word on the boost control solenoid, though.

With all of the yutzes on the roads with their 3 ton battering rams (a.k.a. SUV's) I would think that a cage like that would almost be a neccessity for some peace of mind.

Here's the SUV driver: "I bought my SUV so I can see over traffic." Never mind most of the traffic is made up of SUV's as well.
Here's me: "I bought my 7 so I can see under traffic" Well, this has worked for me so far.
Today when I went to lunch I saw this new Excursion lifted at least 2 feet. It had probably 38" tires. This thing was Bigfoot and The GraveDigger's bastard love child. It was freakin' huge. Folks in this town have too much money I swear (home of Micro$oft).

I always wanted to get pulled over in my car with a roll cage wearing a helmet.

Evil Aviator has the right Idea. That is one hell of a camera mount. Evil, are you building the car for a specific racing class or just an outrageous street car?

You can fit one in there while keeping all of the interior trim as long as it doesn't rise up too high. You'll need to take all of the interior parts off in the back of the car to install one.

I am building it for SPO, but I will not have the funding to race at that level for at least another year, and even then it would just be a couple events a year. Mostly I will race in southeastern club events, such as NSX and Porsche club track days, as this tends to be less damaging to the vehicle. Of course, I am also planning on entering the Nevada Open. Yes, this is also a street car.
