Anyone with flowmasters?

Since I love the sound of flowmaster mufflers and have run them on a V8 Firebird, a 3-banger Chev sprint, and a V6 Maxima, Im just curious to know if anyone has used one on their RX7. Im most likely going to try a setup with one when I get my Rex. I wonder what it will sound like...
Anyways, post a reply if ya got one,
Thanks,

Flowmasters will last you maybe an hour, a week or at most, a month on an RX-7. The extra-hot exhaust the rotary engine produces will melt your Flowmasters quicker than you can save money to buy new ones.

Flowmasters are great on a V-8, but a rotary engine will blow the welds on the internal baffles. I know two people who tried Flowmasters on their RX-3, and both of them blew out the baffles in short order. You may be able to get them to work on a turbocharged RX-7, but I don't think it's worth trying. You would be much better off sticking with rotary-safe products from Racing Beat, Mazdatrix, Rotary Performance, Apexi, HKS, and GReddy.

I hate to go against what Evil says but I've seen/heard a Flowmaster on a 2nd gen. That paticular car still had the factory convertors so that might make a difference with how long it last. Its been on there for 2 years now. It sounds pretty good to me.

If your looking for a really good inexpensive muffler with good exhaust tone for the rotary i would totally go with A Dynomax Ultraflow. All the rotary race cars around here run em, and they are very free flowing... plus they have a lifetime warranty so if they ever do go .. you can replace them free of charge...

Its all about temperatures and pressure. If the car is driven in such a way that really puts the muffler to the test, then a glasspack simply wont hold....its pure physics.

Just go get a custom SS muffler along with the correct piping, and you'll see the Light

Anyone read the Summit Import Catalog? Look at the fine print under the Flowmaster section.... "Not recommended for rotary engines" That goes for most non-stainless, non-straight thru mufflers. One of my friends got a cheap Thrush Turbo muffler (similar to Flowmaster) and it lasted about 3 months on his 1st gen. Eventually one of the huge backfires blew a big hole in the side of it. Kind of sounds better now.

On the dyno, Flowmaster took 50 hp OFF our 20B drag engine. Two rotor race engines (that we have tested) lost 10-30 hp with Flowmasters compared to a "straight-through" type of muffler.
Just thought I'd let you know ---

I have a flo-pro muffler which is working great. It's just got two chambers, and it helps out a lot. I don't think that has any glass pack junk in it. I like it, and it sounds neat.

Wow, thanks for all the replies. I always thought that flowmasters were a real high quality muffler since alot of high horsepower V8 cars use them. I only wanted to use them to possibly get a more unique sound out of my Rx7 but if its going to cut up to 50hp, I think I'll try something else.
Of the Rotary friendly mufflers, which one sounds nice, yet gives good hp gains? I dont really like that buzzing sound that some Rx7s have....
